I do think Lane Burroughs is a guy that people aren't mentioning as much as they should be. Lane would bring that toughness back to the program. He's probably a realistic candidate compared to a lot of the head coach names being thrown out. But, a lot of people would likely feel let down if he's hired because he's not a big name.

You might hear lists and top choices from the media over the next few weeks, but I doubt any leaks will come out of the search before the season ends. Every coach we would want will be leading their current team deep into the post season. We need to make a huge hire and a coach who has loads of experience in the post season, preferably with experience coaching a team in the south. (or around Louisville KY or Corvallis OR)

Why would we want a Conference USA Coach who has only made a regional 3 out of the 8 years he has been at this current school?

Lane Burroughs

these would be top of my non researched list. 3 coaches that I think have a good mix of experience and success. Burroughs wouldn’t be nearly as much of a “home run” type of hire but when you look at what he’s done at LA Tech, it’s pretty damn impressive.

Because 3 of the last 4 years are the years LaTech has been to the tournament. You don't rebuild a crappy program overnight. Please do some research before posting. PS. I don't think Lane gets the job unless a lot of people say no.

He has been relatively successful there for La Tech. He would have far more resources here than he has had at either La Tech or Northwestern State. By no means would he be at the top of my pie in the sky list. I don't think State will hire a sitting head coach unless they look to the mid majors. I'll gladly eat any crow if I'm wrong, but I just don't see it with all the craziness around rev share and everything else currently going on in college sports.

Plus there is no John Cohen sitting out there waiting to be called home. Mingione would drive our fans crazy with the bush league stuff. Plus he was bad early on at UK, and he nearly was let go after 2022. Dude only has had a conference winning record 3 times there. Butch to me is very similar to Lemonis. A little too laid back. On top of that he's been up and down at Auburn. I don't think shelling out big money for either is worth it.

Heefner at Dallas Baptist can obviously recruit and coach.
Would it translate to the SEC ? I don’t know.
He’s been there a long time too so may not have an interest.
Scott Forbes at UNC has been to 4 and now 5 straight Regionlas, SR, CWS last year and has them ranked 3rd right now.

Forbes has spent his entire career in the State of North Carolina. Outside of 3 seasons at Winthrop, and I mean Rock Hill, SC is maybe 15 miles from the NC/SC state line. Yes, you go get him if he's interested, but that guy has the premier job in his home state. He's from the research triangle area too. So, I mean he is most likely home.

I think the portal for baseball is going to be open Jun 2 through July 1. http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/eligibility_center/Transfer/DIUG_Windows.pdf

Super Regionals will be over June 9th. The college world series starts June 13th. Championship series starts June June 21st.

Not sure what counts as a deep run, but if they make it to super regionals, we are missing 20% of the portal window. Not a huge deal as far as identifying and recruiting transfers but I'd be concerned about how much of our roster would leave before our new coach had a chance to talk to him. If they make it to the world series, even if they go 2 and que, you're missing half the portal window.

I don't know how big of a consideration that would be.

Unless the plan/assumption is you hire an assistant. I assume you could pull them before season end?

I think Heefner would be a great choice. Check out his resume.

Just alternate calls back and forth to Godwin and Heefner until one of them realizes that their current program isn’t even going to exist anymore in 3 years.

This doesn’t have to be a complicated process.

I used to think Godwin would be a good hire, but the last couple of years has really changed my opinion.

Consistently choked when a CWS trip is handed to them, and turned into a HUGE whiner on the field and social media. Most of his best players transferred out last year. Something is wrong with that program now. He’s pre-occupied with his new wife and quoting Bible verses online after dog cursing players and fans from opposing teams after ECU loses.

Started giving off Freeze vibes.
