Whose idea was it for Clemson

to throw a pass with 16 seconds left instead of running the ball or kicking the field goal?
You have a field goal in the back pocket, but you get greedy and throw a pass into the middle of the field where bad things can happen and it did.
A pass to end zone which only your guy can catch makes sense but thankfully they chose the path they did.

I prefer to give Dabo the credit for that one. After all, the buck stops with Dabo. 😁

According to Dabo in his press conference after the game, he said it was their QB’s decision—a bad play “that he will learn from.”

So, it was not on the coaching staff but simply a player making an in-game decision in an attempt to win. Disastrous for them, sweetness for Carolina!

Yes. He said klubnutts made a mistake.

I've already addressed this. There's only one right answer and it's the most obvious one. Even his idolaters with whom I go to church were in agreement with that this morning, yet Gamecock people here want to defend him, I suppose because our own coach is subject to occasional brain farts.

My take is that their qb (name escapes me) saw this game as an opportunity to cement his name in clemmons lore, was bolstered by his early success at throwing the ball, figured we wouldn't be expecting it, and took his shot. Their guy could have caught it, made a move and/or broke a tackle, and you guys are sitting around today throwing shade at our defense and woe is me-ing. Football players don't think in terms of Dooley or Bryant, they play to win games; their mind is not the fan's mind. If Sellers had gotten clipped and fumbled on his game winning run you guys would be blasting and claiming he should have just thrown it away if no one was open.

Play the game to win. Glory lasts forever.

If they score a TD to end the game he's a genius. They throw an incompletion, no harm. But the ball bounced funny. I don't blame them for trying to do what had served them well in the first 3 quarters. I've heard complaints that they got too conservative. Which is it?

They didn't want OT. I feel certain the play was to throw into for a TD if it was there, but coverage was good so Klubnick checked down to play it safe. It was his worst throw of the day. They wanted to win in regulation, finally beat a ranked team and do it with style points. It just backfired disastrously.

They were going for the win - I would hope we would do the same if we were in the same situation.

I don't know who made the decision. But right before that play, I told my son that I hoped they would just run the ball a couple of times and play for the field goal because I wasn't sure we could keep them out of the endzone if they kept throwing the ball. It turned out I was wrong, but they were going for the win - exactly as I hoped they wouldn't. It worked out for us.
