Why did the minor conferences need to have a say in CFP?

seems like the BIG and SEC could have just dictated the terms of the CFP. Why do they care about the Mountain West, MAC, etc????

I think the way things played out so far has been good. It leaves no doubt that who is in the final four are the 4 best teams in college football at this point in time. By including other conferences and letting it being decided on the field, IMHO, leaves no doubt about which teams should be playing for the national championship. Some teams were more prepared then others. I think the bye week excuse is bullshiite and those coaching staffs just didn't prepare their teams appropriately. Also, this is football, any given day anyone can beat anyone, there are ups and downs in the sport, a player gets hurt then you should have the backup ready to play and should adjust your game plan to their abilities. Teams have to game plan accordingly to beat their competition and adjust as necessary.

As far as this team had easier path then other teams argument is crap. This is how every bracket works, higher seeds play lower seed. You want to be seeded higher then play better schedules and prove your team needs to be seeded higher instead of trying to scrape in by the skin of your teeth are trying to argue our conference is better then your conference.

Lastly, you can argue that NIL is changing things which it certainly is but you need to still have a coaching staff that can use that talent and call plays that win games.

Totally understand the sentiment @blion72, but the conferences you are referring to are D1-A conferences. So they are considered equal. As long as the NCAA admits any school that wants to climb into Division 1-A into Division 1-A, they need to be treated the same. ( I think a good number of these schools should be in 1-AA ) Right now I believe there are 11 D1-A football conferences. (That is counting the PAC-whatever) So in a similar vein as basketball, all 11 conference winners are in and 5 at-large teams (highest ranked that are not conference champions) making a 16 team playoff. Seed the teams, run the first three rounds of the playoffs the first three weekends in December at the higher seeded teams home field and have the national championship game on new years day. BOOM SOLVED! 🤔 Schools, coaches, fans don't think it is fair? Then maybe re-evaluate who qualifies and is admitted as D1-A

I think logistics make that 3 week tournament a challenge.
