And I'm being serious. MLB umpires do a really good job in general all the way around- and that is what we as fans expect from umpires in general. Not that it is wrong for us to expect a good performance, because we should.
But, even in college baseball, you've got guys that umpire "as a hobby" and they tend to screw up more than they should and/or act unprofessional at times. And then they micromanage the rule book seemingly to prove to everyone that they know the rules when in reality, no one cares.
I have to wonder where they get their training from. If I were the SEC, I would hire or consult someone that runs the umpire schools that MLB uses to train and develop umpires and send the SEC umpires to that. Of course, I'm sure that there are a few Harry Wendlestedt school of umpiring flunkees that are umpiring in the SEC as it is.
