I just saw a video on The Weather Channel app of wild fires in the U.K. It has been very dry there the past few weeks, and highs today in much of the country were above 100 F. My guess is that A/C is uncommon in older homes there. Bad situation.

If you know folks in the U.K., how are they doing?

Don’t know anyone but they are sweating their bollocks off! A/C is not a typical commodity in the UK from what I hear.

Record setting heat in France - as high as 108.8. And saw these from Hawaii yesterday (don't build property near oceans folks!):

Its a cloudy 62 in Brechin, Scotland. In other words, summer.

It has not hit 90 yet this summer in State College. Today it might.

I still remember it being hot as balls in Porter Hall on July 4, 1990. Good summer session overall, but hot as balls at times.

We traveled through London Monday on our walk back from the Open. I could see transformers popping off in the distance and at one point there were two on fire. Their system is not set up to handle the heat. Looks like a great opportunity for some electrical grid upgrades and A/C sales!

Yeah, heard the steel in their rails are only good up to around an 80 degree average. Significant safety issues above that. The cost to upgrade infrastructure will be staggering.

I'm jealous. Record heat here in Texas combined with drought conditions. Some areas near Dallas haven't had a drop of rain in nearly 2 months. I'm in Austin, we aren't quite that bad with rain but the daily temps right now over around 105, well above normal averages. This is on pace to be the hottest summer ever recorded.

It’s predicted that the next ten days in Austin will each be over 100.

Yep. It is end of July usually brutally hot. I can remember many arts festival over 100. Went to live aid in 1985 and they had to spray the crowds with hoses becaus it was brutally hot.
Fyi jan 20 it is going to be very cold.

News flash: it's often very warm during the peak of summer.

Carry on.
So if it hit 119 degrees in Pa, you wouldn't bat an eye? That is the equivalent of what just happened in England.....not Phoenix, but England. Highs of 74 on average in July there and 104 is a bit out of that curve. Pa. is usually averages a high of 89 in July and we have all had 100 degree days if we lived in the Northeast, but 119 degrees in the Northeast and it too would be newsworthy.

When we went to Italy in 2019 it was 105 in Florence. But Italy does have some A/C. They have these nifty little ceiling units that can cool down a room nicely. Only one night was without A/C. I've been in Germany in hot weather, and they do not tend to have good A/C

Also Europeans do not tend to leave windows open at all and do not have screens.

Plenty of people without AC in San Diego as the temps are moderate along the coast. Ceiling and floor fans for plenty of folks out there. The only time it really bites them is when the Santa Ana's start blowing from the desert and it climbs pretty quickly, but that is more so in the cooler months. It will get into the 90's in January when they are blowing.

San Diego which was discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's ******.

stay classy san diego GIF

I‘ve been to Germany in summer a few times. Brutal.

This doesn't make any sense. It's like 2 F hotter than the previous record. It never ceases to amaze me the absolute BS people who hate bikini weather spew.
