the stone in the official State class ring is the true dark maroon, and the color of the football uniforms is nowhere close to it. I know, because I have a vintage class ring. Croom probably had some "say" (ala Winston Churchill) and that may be why it it is not MSU maroon, but more shaded toward crimson.
