Great strategy. Let’s be the back up prom date. It's still worth the time to continue recruiting him now. If Staley ever transfers, it seems like kids that go out of state (whichever state, not just SC), when they transfer they come back home.
It's the new side to recruiting - setting yourself up for the transfer portal by establishing a relationship with a kid even if you know you aren't getting him out of high school.
We were late to the party. He's had legit offers back to '22 and we just offered. I don't see a flip
happening now.

You don't want to do that with every recruit obviously - but if you're late to the game, there's still work that can be done. And with the number of transfers going up each year, recruiting the portal is as important as recruiting high school (if not more important with some schools). Better have a good portal strategy, and that includes recruiting hometown kids that you might see in the portal a year or two from now.
In sales, if you don't get the order, you always want to at least by #2. #1 WILL screw up at some point.Agreed. If we lose him, it's still worth leaving it on terms where he feels welcome to come back.
Wonderful new aspects of recruiting in the age of the portal.
