"He requested a transfer after learning while home over the holidays that his father suffered a “serious, life-threatening illness,” according to Heitner. The school has refused to follow NCAA protocol requiring institutions to comply with a player’s transfer request by submitting his or her name to the portal within two business days."

Player had signed a two year NIL revenue deal one month prior to the request.

A rule is a rule until someone decides they don't want to do it. Then it's not a rule anymore. I'm glad society at large isn't like that. Or is it becoming that way too??

The article indicates the contract is not enforceable. Congress still has to formally approve revenue sharing. As it stands, revenue sharing is not legal. Illegal contracts are not enforceable. I suspect schools will have players resign these contracts after congress grants final approval.

You ain't seen nothing yet. With college sports, and society at large, we are headed towards a real cluster. And I don't mean this politically. Across the political spectrum we are witnessing a significant attitude change. It's global and it is worrisome. Courts don't have armies.

You must have missed the part about Wisconsin not following the rule and permitting him to enter the transfer portal.

This is so fun. Just nuke everything already. What the f*ck are we doing here fellas?

College football continues to experience the chaos it deserves.

Thanks to decades of blatant antitrust violations that limited players to an education that didn’t begin to match the value they brought to their school, the model has collapsed in recent years — thanks to a stream of slam-dunk lawsuits attacking the habit of independent businesses coming together under the umbrella of the NCAA to rig, and to cap, labor expenses.

The latest chunk of chaos comes from the apparent collapse of the transfer portal. After Wisconsin refused to allow cornerback Xavier Lucas to enter the portal, he left the school and transferred to Miami.

The NCAA, which apparently has learned the lessons of multiple failed antitrust cases, has thrown the door open for transfers beyond the parameters of the portal.

“NCAA rules do not prevent a student-athlete from unenrolling from an institution, enrolling at a new institution and competing immediately,” the NCAA said in a statement to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo.com.

College football is going to eat itself…enjoy it while it lasts. You can’t give all the power to the players.
Actually all college sport. Title IX will also have a say, so that all athletes must get paid the same--whether or not that sport generates any revenue.

It'll be interesting to see if everyone MUST be paid the same or if it can be based on the amount of revenue a sport generates. If it's the former, expect a sport-cutting frenzy - most of which will be male.

I do not think there is anyway to make sure everyone is paid the same, but I definitely can see a minimum every student athlete needs to be paid annually.

Can you imagine if every tennis, golf, swimming, softball, etc. player has to be paid say a minimum of $100k+ each year based on total revenue captured by an athletic department.

I still say FU Emerett and NCAA for being so arrogant and kicking this can down the road for all those years rather than working to get this into a much neater regulated box.

you still have to be able to enroll in the next school. they have to be in good academic standing at the original school to transfer anywhere and be eligible. further they have to be able to enroll in the new school, which is not possible after a certain point in the semester. they still are students.

College football over/under 10 years.
Monster truck shows in beaver stadium in 2035.
Finish west side of stadium, do other important/needed aspects onother 3 sides, then see where college football is at before going crazy with renovations in those 3. I’m still not convinced stadium will be packed 10 yrs from now, no matter how good our record.

I’m sure we will see the new prices in a month. So many in others areas will be displaced when the west section for the most part chooses their seats for next year.

Why not? Make them all club sports. No reason to share - even proportionally - with non-revenue sports.
Well that is different than "cut everything".

I haven't seen any serious proposals to pay every athlete so I think this much ado about nothing. Making everything club would be a big disservice to any kid that dreams of playing their sport at a high level. I know that my D1 athlete kids would be pretty disappointed, as well as their teammates.

I linked an article that mandates proportional revenue sharing/NIL payments to women, and that is in addition to the settlement which will require schools pay athletes. How much? We shall see - but article says if 50% of sports are women’s, they must get 50% of the money.

No offense to other D1 athletes - they just don’t make any money and cost a ton to support. Guessing you will see big cuts everywhere soon. Paying for the swim team to go to LA for a meet is nuts.

I thought the settlement was to pay ex players damages for loss of income. I don't think that mandates paying current players but I could be wrong. There is a bipartisan effort for a bill that would block student athletes from gaining employee status.

I'd rather see football and basketball separated from the other sports in terms of leagues and finances. I agree it's silly for minor sports to travel across country constantly for games. Keep the tradional leagues for minor sports.

Oh, and do the college football Commissioner thing.
