I agree Arizona State would be a destination as the PAC 12 sits right now but what's it going to look like in two years? How much can the old boosters at Nebraska drum up for NIL?
The Arizona schools aren't what they were since joining the Pac 8, they were better in the Western Athletic Conference .

Right. Rhule's MO is to take a job to coach a 💩 team and take them to a bowl and come out a hero then move on. The Cornholers are a perfect opportunity for that in a weak B1G West.
Rhule's MO is to take a job to coach a team with recent success, that had an even more recent blip downward, and then look like the hero when they go back up to pre-blip performance. Nebraska has no recent success, so if he takes this job, it'll be unchartered territory.

If he waits, I think he should wait for the TAM opening.
I agree it's Texas, a state he knows well and being in the SEC West he can make some splash wins.

However with Nebraska, recruiting Texas is essential and the teams in the plains have created sort of a self vacuum.

My friend, you have gotten way off topic. The original conversation was about a comment stating Rhule should wait for a better job. This was not intended to be a Nebraska vs. PSU debate. You are arguing against yourself.
Nebraska is dead. Even more so when USC and UCLA join the conference. Their best shot would be to rejoin the Big 12 where they’d have a shot at winning 8-10 games periodically.

What was Nebraska’s last major bowl? Cotton 2007? They haven’t even been to a bowl game since 2016. They will never be back. Penn State is in a completely different and wildly better situation….
Coach Franklin appreciates the vote of confidence and accepts your apology.

My friend. You changed the topic, not me.

Nebraska's lone advantage in the transfer portal world is they will accept a felonious trained donkey into school there. Admissions is a joke. Thats big actually.

I think he would do well at Nebraska. He likes to pound the ball running and play tough defense. People forget what a mess Baylor and Temple were before Rhule. He can recruit and recruits will want to play for a guy who coached in the NFL and can help them get there.

I dont agree that Nebby is dead.

But I would be hard pressed to believe that they will be as dominant as they were under Osborne. It’s a different time, a different league, a different landscape.
Sounds fair to me. You never know. Maybe they could revive that top secret strength training program that turned pencil neck geeks into raging, balding, moon faced, acne filled, beasts

Portal will help them. But, unlikely they’re beating out teams for five star TBs like they used to do.

Baylor was 10-3, 8-5, 11-2, 11-2, 10-3, 7-6 before Rhule showed up.
Temple was 9-4, 8-4, 9-4, 4-7 before Rhule showed up.
Carolina was 12-4, 7-8-1, 15-1, 6-10, 11-5, 7-9, 5-11 before Rhule showed up (5-11 matched Rhule's best record there)

Not sure what to think of Rhule, really. Is he a turnaround genius or is he fool's gold? As pointed out, Temple was doing OK under Al Golden and Steve Addazio (the move to the Big East did hobble them). Baylor had been doing pretty well under Art Briles. Nebraska will be a challenge for Rhule. I think they have OK players but they have not been a "force" for years. Rhule may be able to benefit from a very "down" B1G West. Gonna be interesting to watch, that's for sure.

I’d pass on Nebraska. Auburn is a much better job, but Rhule’s probably not sleazy enough for it (hello Lane Kiffin!). I think Georgia Tech is a better job too. Arizona State could be intriguing. Nebraska is a relic - no NIL, poor natural recruiting geography, it’s in Lincoln. Just a very hard sell these days.
I don’t want to burst your bubble but Nebraska has a rich and giving donor base. PS should be that lucky. I’m friends with several alumni from there. They have better facilities, dormitory for athletes, and NIL. All things PS wants … so technically they are in a better position … no? We shall see if Rhule is better than James since he is now their coach

Un, no. None of that has led to any success recently and their recruiting classes are butt. Rhule might help but being the richest team in Nebraska means you’re still in Nebraska

I’ll clarify, ro. Nebraska is dead as a perennial top-5 football program like they were under Osborn.

And haven’t they tried and failed with the fired NFL coach retread? Callahan?

Just curious, what has been holding them back?

They shed the Osborne I formation like a snake. Big 12 did not equate success. Big 10 dropped them further. Nobody has recruited well there, at least not compete for the title well.

If they are flush with cash, and great facilities then why have they been a doormat in the B1G? Something doesn’t add up.

one thing may be their recruiting pipelines are decimated. In Nebraskas heyday teams like Ok St., the Kansases, Baylor, TT, etc. were lesser programs. Now they are competitive with better facilities and can compete for talent. The Huskers could pick off a few players from California and Jersey, but not so much anymore.

Well I can only post things I’ve been told or saw with my own eyes.
Mike & Scott didn’t have the best luck recruiting. Many donors didn’t like the firing of Bo Pelini so they had the same issue we did. Other donors put tons of money into keeping the so called sellout streak alive. Scott had tons of personal issues that never made headlines until he got fired. Many of which hindered his recruiting. Is some of location? I’m sure but PS is fighting that as well. I’ve seen their facilities, both are better than Holuba & the Beav. When it comes to over all support, there’s nothing like being the only team in a state.
