Nothing should surprise anybody about this tyrannical government, apparently spying on the athletes.
Probably the same torch they're using to light the concentration campe crematoriums they're using to kill off the Uyghurs."We're not exterminating Uyghurs. Look, here's one lighting the torch!"
This.In my opinion, an American competing for China is the same as an American competing the former Soviet Union.
Agree 100%.Maybe the Olympic Committee (and more specifically, the civilized world) should stop awarding the Olympics to countries ruled by totalitarian governments (China), countries with poor human rights records (China) and borderline 3rd World countries.
Just curious. If she did in fact renounce her citizenship, will she have to apply for a Visa to come back into the country to stay? She would then be a chinese national , right? Seems like an awfully big price to pay.And this is pretty funny:

US-born Figure Skater Zhu Yi Slammed Online After Falling in Olympic Debut for China
American-born figure skater Zhu Yi fell several times and failed to land a jump during her Olympic debut for Team China, sparking backlash on Chinese social media.www.nbcsports.com
"The 19-year-old, who renounced her U.S. citizenship to compete for China, fell and crashed into a wall during the women’s short program team event on Sunday. Zhu then missed a jump in her routine and finished with the lowest score of the event, knocking China down from third to to fifth place."
I think there's an ethnic component at play here that most of us couldn't appreciate. In my opinion, an American competing for China is the same as an American competing the former Soviet Union.
There's also a massive corruption component to vying for, getting, and constructing the Olympics which make them a good match for certain regimes.I think there's an ethnic component at play here that most of us couldn't appreciate.
Not a problem. There's also a massive corruption component to vying for, getting, and constructing the Olympics which make them a good match for certain regimes.
edit: Sorry, King, I saw your comment but didn't notice to which comment you were replying.
Lmaoooooooooooo like we don't have food supply shortages right NOW in capitalist AmericaHalf these athletes crying about the lack of food are probably the same ones voting for candidates with socialist agendas.
Supply shortages here have nothing to do with capitalism and everything to do with regulation. When govt gets out of the way, capitalism works.Lmaoooooooooooo like we don't have food supply shortages right NOW in capitalist America
When govt gets out of the way, capitalism works.
Come now.Except when it doesn't - which is why we have most of the regulations we have today. Unfettered capitalism leads to the same place as unfettered socialism - it's why neither works alone.
Ethnic or not, it supports communismI think there's an ethnic component at play here that most of us couldn't appreciate.
Beijing has gotten 2 Olympics in the past 10 years. It's crazy. It's always China, Korea, Japan. Why’s the Olympics, both summer & winter, going to Asia so dang much?

No, our civil legal system is the ultimate check and balance, although there are some economies of scale that regulation handles more swiftly such as food inspections and construction consistency. But, ultimate control always leads to abuse. Look no further than the way blue states handled Covid even after the data and “science” became widely known. Relinquishing overlord style power proves difficult for them.Except when it doesn't - which is why we have most of the regulations we have today. Unfettered capitalism leads to the same place as unfettered socialism - it's why neither works alone.
Unfettered capitalism can lead to a form of corporate fascism by corporations that have monopoly power and enough lobbyists. So yes, the same end.Except when it doesn't - which is why we have most of the regulations we have today. Unfettered capitalism leads to the same place as unfettered socialism - it's why neither works alone.
I have a true story I might interject, depending on the direction of this thread. It speaks to the sometimes pervasive effects of ethnic tribalism. I detest communism as much as anyone, but I think that most of the effects in favor of communism by ethnic Chinese that make some of the decisions these athletes are making are incidental. It's about personal ethnic identity winning out over national identity.Ethnic or not, it supports communism
Look who is in charge.Lmaoooooooooooo like we don't have food supply shortages right NOW in capitalist America
Substitute Free Market for Capitolism. (Sic)Unfettered capitalism
It is best for the board to remain free of politics. But if you really insist on going there, you need to be fair. Everybody knows the supply chains have been really weird for 2 years now.Look who is in charge.
Once you said that, anything else was superfluous. It is best for the board to remain free of politics...
LOL! Dude.It is best for the board to remain free of politics. But if you really insist on going there, you need to be fair. Everybody knows the supply chains have been really weird for 2 years now.
