Would Sellers have played better than Ashford?

It was the opponent. There are so few games to get it right. I want all of them to be successful.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm just happy that we have 2 quality qb's on the roster at the same time. We haven't had that since the Shaw and Thompson days.

I think QB is still iffy for us. Sellers is still very much a work in progress, though he progressed from Week 1 to Week 3, which is what you want to see, and I think he will end up being a very good college QB.

I'm not sure what to make of Ashford's play against Akron. @vacock said above that Ashford isn't that good and his stats were merely a product of playing a terrible team. Is his take correct? I don't know. Maybe.

The prevailing opinion among Gamecock fans was that we'd have won by a considerably larger margin had Sellers played, but I'm not sure we would have. I think Sellers clearly has more overall skill than Ashford, but Ashford has more experience and you can see that difference sometimes.

Don't really appreciate the question.
Not sure it serves any purpose other than creating division.
I do enjoy most your post and there is nothing personal in my opinion of this post, this just needs to be a" do over".

It's just an honest question and really just a nod to Ashford's abilities, which were considered suspect after the LSU game.

Ashford played really well in this game. To suggest Sellers would not have performed better does mean he would have played worse. I think Sellers would also have played really well in this game. I'm just not sure he would have done considerably better than the stats that Ashford posted.

Ashford played better than he did against LSU. Not sure if the quality of the opponent was the reason, maybe.
Ashford ran the ball extremely well but more impressive were the throws he was making with the pocket collapsing around him.
He threw the ball accurately and on time.
Most disappointing thing I saw during the game besides the failure of the OL once again was Harbor's lack of progress catching the football and becoming a weapon as a receiver.

So do we have 3 quality QBs?

Nyck did have 2 catches, right? We just haven't found a way to utilize his speed, or he hasn't.

I saw one person comment, and it certainly looks true, that Nyck is not at all smooth in running his routes.

You're right, we wouldn't have produced better results by having Sellers in the lineup. It boils down to how the offensive line performed, or the plays called by Loggains. OL play was HORRIBLE by the way.

Boils down to three things: 1) Playcall to get him a target. 2) Route running 3) Hands

Offensive line is offensive, that's for sure. You can't blame it on youth either, this is a really experienced line outside of Thompson at right tackle.

One the football field Harbor is awkward, uncomfortable, and hesitant. I could be wrong but he looks to me like someone that didn't play a lot of neighborhood football growing up; he doesn't appear to have a good concept of what he should be doing. He looks like a guy that somebody said 'he's tall, he's fast, lets make a receiver out of him.' But he ain't, not yet anyway.

Keep seeing these one liners about 'hands'. One guy even says his catches are tough to watch? Wth does that even mean. Refresh my memory; I don't recall seeing him drop a ball like we certainly see other guys doing, even this past Saturday. What am I missing? Seems to me that hands are not his issue.

He looked smooth on his tape in high school.

He does not look smooth here playing WR.

Did you not see him bobble 3-4 times a ball that was thrown directly to his chest on a hitch?

I remember watching Tori Gurley and continuously getting frustrated that the man wouldn’t lift his hands above his chest to catch a ball. On a deep jump ball he would always try and cradle the ball in his stomach instead of reach up over his head and it drove me insane. I get the same frustration with Harbor wanting to yell how it’s common sense to just hold your hands a different way and it will be so much easier to make a nice, smooth catch.

All 5 stars look great on their HS tape, they are physically dominant in every game they play. When they get to college they have to face opposing players who were also the best players on their HS teams and the playing field is much more level.

I've said all along that major college football is not the place to learn a new position.

Well, yes, I think things would look much different if he were playing his natural position.

I sure did. I also saw him being hit at the same time and he still pulled it in.

Yeah, that was a tough one to judge. On the one hand, he should have caught it on the first try. On the other hand, he showed good concentration and control to hold onto the ball while being hit. Kind of showed bad hands and good hands on the same catch.

If you think that catch should have been anything other than routine I don’t know what to tell you. I want the guy to be successful, but as plenty of others have said, you can’t coach instincts. And he just doesn’t have a natural instinct a big time receiver needs.

I don’t think you can teach someone to catch. You can help refine his skills and give him reps but the hand eye coordination has to be there. The same as teaching someone to hit a baseball. You can refine their swing and help with hitting concepts but they have to be able to put the bat on the ball.
