Let's say State football gets back to where it was under Mullen (6 to 8 wins a year with an occasional 9-10 win season), would you be okay if the rest of the sports were consistently at or near the bottom. And if those teams (MBB, WBB, baseball, etc) luck up and have a decent season, they're immediately poached.

I'm talking cutting NIL for all sports to funnel into football. Would you be cool with that?

I know I'm in the minority but I don't care if football only wins three games a year as long as baseball can make regionals every year and supers every 3-4 years. My outlook on football is probably a defense mechanism to prepare myself for our future.

I would personally bulldoze Dudy-Noble, the Softball Field and the Soccer Complex if it meant our Football and Men's Basketball teams were competitive every year.

Those are the only two sports that matter.

On the flip side, we could win the Natty every year in softball or soccer and I wouldn't care at all. Not even a little bit. We were super competitive in baseball for years and no one really cared outside of Oktibbeha County.

I guess I'm the crazy one for thinking State is foolish for spending finite resources to try to be the 9th best MBB/WBB/baseball program in the SEC, instead of going "All-in" on football. Granted, I've watched only a couple State non-football sporting events this school year, so I may not be a typical State fan.

I’ve pondered another version of this question when we were talking about NIL value for LSU women’s basketball players.

If you had $2 Million to spend on NIL… would you spend it to get to a 3rd football win or would you spend it on a national championship in a non-revenue sport (baseball, softball, soccer, women’s basketball, volleyball, tennis, etc.)?

I mean… I would lean toward a national championship in a non-revenue sport than being a drop in the bucket for football, but I have a feeling I’m in the minority on that.

Since I graduated from college, the two most fun times for me as a state fan were the run in football in 2014 and our national championship in baseball. I would much rather have a national championship in a non-revenue sport then one more win in football. Not even a question.

My scenario at least acknowledges reality and basically recruits and spends at Sun Belt level, freeing up more money for football.

At State we have no advantages over other SEC schools, other than the fact that Dudy-Noble exists. We could stop pretending we can be an "all-around" athletic program, cut budgets on the major non-football sports and get rid of the budget drains like track and field and mens golf. Yeah, it would suck, but maybe State could get into the top half of the league in football spending.

6-8 wins per year with an occasional 9-10 wins is a nothing more than a farm team for SEC teams. I’d rather figure out a way to get revenue from that status and compete in baseball and basketball.

here's a novel idea, yet i kn ow some will hem and haw about it, how about cease recruiting elsewhere in the country? there's enough talent and loyalty within the state of mississippi to create a compeetitive team but our lazy recruiters have to get outside of jackson area and northeast mississippi to look at talent. i've lost count of how many players along the hwy 84 corridor who've been snapped up over the last 20-plus years by FSU, alabama, auburn, LSU, and Texas. players in mississippi who WANT to play for mississippi state, not someone from BFE Georgia or west texas who leap at the highest bidder.

I would trade it for sure, Women's Golf is probably the closest team we have to a national championship, at least last year it was. SEC champs last year and made it to NCAA championship rounds.

IF going all in in Football actually mvoed the needle, then maybe. But lack of money isn't our biggest problem right now. It's the biggest long term issue, but if we just dump money into the status quo I doubt that changes.

But generally, I think the boosters should decide where their "NIL" contributions go, and any unspecified contributions should go to football or men's basketball, which are by far the most important sports.

We’ve always operated with less money; Whether it be NIL or general Athletics budget. The only difference is the transfer portal. Players can transfer in just as easily as leave.
