Kentucky's only chance was a three at the buzzer. That's infinitely more likely with 1.2 seconds left from a dead ball inbounds play than a rebound. Smart play if the call was goaltending, unfortunately (for Kentucky) they called a Tech.

I am not saying it was a smart play but the KY boards wanted the GT to prevent the intenional miss which would have ended the game. Technicals, if missed, would allow KY to take the ball out on the endline with a chance to tie (would have been down 3).
