Heard a rumor today PSU trying to but their way out of this game, WVU not playing ball supposedly. Would be embarssing as hell if they pull out of this game.
Haven't heard it either. Was thinking after the bowl game though, that this game on the road could very well be a loss to open the season. And where did you hear this rumor?

And get another home game for $$.Can't imagine they'd bail on this game. I guess if they did, it would be to play a lesser opponent?
And get another home game for $$.
As well as enhance our reputation.I assume any cancellation with WVU will cost $$$.
Or someone might be interested in PSU for one of the early season kickoff games. These can net as much as, or more than. a home game. And get another home game for $$.
Or the game can be rescheduled for a future date. Would involve compensation, but not as much as for an outright cancellation.I assume any cancellation with WVU will cost $$$.

Michigan's schedule is tougher. They have Texas in non-conference, plus USC, Wash, Oregon, and tOSU.If you look at the schedule for next year, they should cancel this game. It might be the toughest in the country. Losing the game stinks but the wear and tear on the roster next year will be substantial.
I don't think Wash or Oregon are going to be close to what they were this year. Washington loses a LOT and Oregon, at least, loses Nix.Michigan's schedule is tougher. They have Texas in non-conference, plus USC, Wash, Oregon, and tOSU.
As a fan I also want tough non-conf games but they do little to benefit the team and only hurt the chances for the playoff. Michigan had one of the weakest schedules in the country this year and it didn't hurt them one bit. If you are in the B1G or SEC and win your games, you're all set. Next year with the expansion to 12 there's even more margin for error and someone like UGA who also had a weak schedule but had a loss will still get in. There's simply no incentive to add difficult games outside of conference play anymore, especially with the money for the program coming from pre-negotiated media contracts with less importance put on ticket sales and concessions from fans.
Well, things changed a bit. When it was scheduled, our only tough games were tOSU and UM. Now we add in Washington, and USC. Having said that, after WVu we have Bowling Green, a bye and Kent so we should be ok.If true, cancelling would be ridiculous IMHO. If they're afraid of a loss then the game shouldn't have been scheduled in the first place. I know, it was scheduled under a different AD but it would still be a bad look. A trip to Morgantown would be a good test to start the season. On the financial side, the AD would pay money to WVU then pay more money to have another team do a one-and-done in Beaver Stadium. It would suck all around.
I still think it was bush league when UVA cancelled on us. Doing the same to WVU would be bush league as well.
From a WVU donor, right now WVU telling them to pound sand, hopefully this game is played, would be a terrible look imho. And where did you hear this rumor?

That's called the Big 10Might as well play a bunch of tomato can's the first 8 games of the year, Michigan did and road it to a Natty.
I think a lot would care, game opened up the season for the country last yr, should be a hell of a game this season. I guess you'd rather play directional Universityno one would care
Greatest RB in PSU history came out of WVI worry about how something like this might affect our recruiting in and around Elkins.
From Northern panhandle region of WV and eastern ohio along the river where many people worked in the copper shops making 'hoops' for wood barrelsDoes anyone besides me recall when WV folks were referred to as “hoopies”? Any idea to the origins or meaning?
Alabama also begged out of a game with Penn State years ago when it was under sanctions.Alabama (asked to reschedule at a later date), VT, and UVa all did it to PSU. It’s a business.
Love Curt Warner and went to the Sugar Bowl when Penn State won its first National Championship. But in all fairness Saquon says hello.Greatest RB in PSU history came out of WV
Forget about Elkins......think of Nitro!I worry about how something like this might affect our recruiting in and around Elkins.
I never knew that. The only place I see anyone being referred to as a hoopie is on the Pitt message board. I thought it was just another stupid thing they came up with. From Northern panhandle region of WV and eastern ohio along the river where many people worked in the copper shops making 'hoops' for wood barrels
Hoopies were workers who placed hoops around the liquor barrels. For some reason it became a pejorative.Does anyone besides me recall when WV folks were referred to as “hoopies”? Any idea to the origins or meaning?
It is an Ohio Valley expression for the most part. Put a peg in Wheeling WV and draw a 50 mile radius and thats generally who uses the termI never knew that. Don't worry all the other 99% of things they come up with are stupid.I never knew that. The only place I see anyone being referred to as a hoopie is on the Pitt message board. I thought it was just another stupid thing they came up with.

Yes, I thought PSU was looking to reschedule and VT backed out completely?Didn't we cancel VT because of the Covid thing, and the Big cancelling the season? If so, I don't blame them from cancelling the game at PSU if they couldn't reschedule the Blacksburg game.
Doesn't Tennessee still owe us a home game from the 70s?Not to mention the hokies bailing on us…
