In almost every scenario on the ESPN predictor thingy - even if we do manage to get in, we're matched up against Noodle Lame....

So, would you rather get in and face Noodle Lame, and have to put up with the refs finding every way imaginable to screw us?? (Think LSU refs x 10)

We lose that game and get a final ranking of somewhere in the high 20's , or low teens....to finish out the season.

Or, do you prefer to go to a good bowl game, and win, and finish the season very likely in the top 10? Which scenario is better long term for Beamer, recruiting, and the program? I'm taking option B. No way in hell refs call a fair game with us vs ND. Just sayin'. Not in any universe. We all know it.

I’m not so sure rankings shouldn’t stop being updated after conference championships. Too many players not playing in bowl games.

But to answer your question, I’d love to have a shot at playing ND.

This was going to be my comment. Miss the playoffs and how many players opted out? How many players opt out for the opposition?

It's not just our team that can make the bowl "meaningless". We would need both teams to inveat to make people think of it as a real game.

I want in the f'n playoffs man.
So do I. But the point of the post was about the future of the program given 2 options...

0% chance we are allowed to win against ND. None. Zip. Nada. I promise.

The point was, I think a legit argument could be made that not making it, winning the bowl game, being ranked top #10, might actually set up better for the future......not this season. Just bored on a Sunday and overthinking, I'm sure.

I'd take that over barely getting in and then getting absolutely hosed by the refs and becoming the butt end of a joke nationwide during the off season, not to mention opposing coaches using it against us in recruiting... "SC will never be allowed to win it all, etc, etc.... See??" .... etc.

Just food for thought given 2 story lines come seasons end.

The refs didn't stop NIU from winning. They're not going to stop us, especially after the LSU reffing cluster.

When we played ND the last time, they had some people decide early to sit out and it seemed to favor us.

By the time, the game rolled around, we had more defections than they did, and we lost a heartbreaker to them.

If it's all the same to anyone else, I would rather not witness such a disappointing farce again.

Playoffs - against anybody - over an also-ran bowl game any day of the week.

If nothing else, making the playoff means all of our players stick with us until at least December 20th, maybe longer.

They're all also-ran now when your difference-makers are sitting.

Mixed feelings. On one hand I'd like to play a top quality opponent with a ton of tradition in a good new years day bowl if we dont make the playoffs. On the other hand, kinda wouldn't mind seeing not making the playoffs hurt a good bit more than that. That means playing a whole lot less than a quality opponent.
Based on what I saw in the clemson game where we seemed to have had the mindset that we weren't going to be denied, I kinda think the latter could work in our favor going forward. Whatever tho.

I feel if you don’t want in the playoffs then why do you play the games, that’s what it’s all about. We over achieved this season when we usually under achieve as a football team. Bowl games are becoming more meaningless with the opt outs, the extra practices and the gifts the players get are about it. You play to win the game. Playoffs or bust!
