The jokes about Nick Saban getting rolled by the tide more or less wrote themselves after his daughter shared a video of the then-Alabama head coach boogie boarding several summers ago. Well, attempting to boogie board.

As the long time Crimson Tide head coach enters retirement this offseason, many speculated about what he might fill his time with. Enter Kristen Saban Setas, who shared that her parents are spending time between golf and the beach.

After some cajoling from fans, she posted a video of Saban splashing in the surf with a boogie board, circa 2018, complete with the laugh track from Saban’s family after he wipes out.

Given that this video is from more than five years ago, the former Alabama coach might have advanced his boogie boarding skills notably in recent years. And now that Saban isn’t caught up in the day-to-day grind of recruiting, managing a roster and running the other trappings of the Alabama program, he can dedicate more of his time to catching waves.

Then, instead of getting rolled by the tide and mocked by his family, Saban can roll with the tide. He’s a lot more accustomed to that, anyways.

Saban Setas shared a heartfelt message when her dad retired

After the news hit her like everyone else, Saban Setas addressed the matter in a touching fashion. But first, she had to wait for her phone to process the onslaught of messages after the news broke.

“My phone froze 5 times and shut itself off,” Setas wrote on her Instagram story. “My inbox is full (of lovely supportive messages, thank you). I’ll say something eventually. So many emotions at the moment.”

It’s certainly been a whirlwind ride for Saban Setas watching her father coach over the years. Saban has won seven national titles, including six at Alabama, where Saban Setas spent most of her childhood growing up.

The program begins to feel like an extended family of sorts, something Saban Setas touched on in her message.

“Football is my life,” she wrote. “Watching my dad accomplish so many things one aafter the other for so many years has been incredible and I am so thankful to witness the history I’ve seen him make. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your messages, your Alabama football stories (please send more) and your love.

“Alabama forever. Roll Tide forever. I love you all.”
