Denton (Md.) North Caroline four-star athlete Zymear Smith has decommitted from Alabama, he tells On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

He was pledged to the Crimson Tide since March 9, when he chose Kalen DeBoer and Co. over Georgia, Texas, and Tennessee.

Smith is the No. 326 overall prospect and No. 14 ATH in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 8 player in Maryland.

Smith returned to Tuscaloosa for an official visit on May 31 and also logged an OV to the home-state Maryland Terrapins on June 21.

“I feel like I made a good decision and I’m sticking with it, for sure,” Smith told BOL after his official visit. “It’s a college town. Nothing is really going on, so I can put the work in. I know Coach DeBoer is going to be that guy and we’re going to get some wins.”

Last season for North Caroline High, Smith played running back and cornerback. He rushed for 670 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games while also tallying 22 tackles and three interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.

Tide posses nation’s No. 2 recruiting class

Despite the loss of Smith, Alabama still has the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Earlier on Wednesday, the Tide landed a commitment from Cincinnati Winton Woods four-star EDGE Justin Hill, a top-50 prospect overall.

The class is now back down to 21 total commits — 16 of whom are blue-chippers. Mission Viejo (Calif.) five-star cornerback Dijon Lee, the No. 30 overall prospect in the nation, headlines the class and was one of 10 recruits who committed to the Tide last month.

Eastman (Ga.) Dodge County four-star athlete Darrell Johnson is also a top-50 commit, while Selma (Ala.) Southside four-star athlete Derick Smith, Duncanville (Texas) four-star quarterback Keelon Russell, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star cornerback Chuck McDonald and Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley four-star linebacker Dawson Merritt are all top-100 prospects in the mix.

Carmel (Calif.) four-star offensive tackle Jackson Lloyd and Doylestown (Pa.) Central Bucks East four-star interior offensive lineman Michael Carroll each committed in June and are top-30 prospects in the 2025 On300.
