Just a day after naming his top eight schools, Sumter (S.C.) four-star EDGE Monteque Rhames received a major offer on Friday afternoon from defending SEC champion Alabama.

Rhames is the No. 302 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 33 EDGE and the No. 4 player in the state of South Carolina.

Among his previously released top eight schools are: Coastal CarolinaFlorida StateGeorgiaMichiganNC StateSouth CarolinaVirginia Tech and UCF. The in-state Gamecocks are considered the leaders in his recruitment, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

Monteque Rhames is familiar with Alabama

The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder has been in contact with the Crimson Tide before his offer today. And he even visited Tuscaloosa in early April. The Tide might be getting in at just the right time.

Rhames has yet to scheduled any official visits to this point. Although the expectation is that South Carolina — which has hosted him more than a half-dozen times — and NC State will likely be on the list. Georgia, Florida State, and Michigan remain as potential options as wel.
