New Alabama baseball coach Rob Vaughn just added another member to his inaugural staff in Tuscaloosa. On Saturday morning, the team announced the hiring of current Maryland assistant Mike Morrison, who was under Coach Vaughn in Annapolis and now will follow him to ‘Bama. Morrison was also on staff at Coastal Carolina when they won the College World Series.

Here was that news, as broken by the official team site:

“University of Alabama head baseball coach Rob Vaughn officially announced the hiring of Mike Morrison on Saturday morning. Morrison, who spent the last two seasons at Maryland, is the third addition to Vaughn’s Crimson Tide coaching staff, joining associate head coach Jason Jackson and assistant coach Anthony Papio.”

The article announcing Morrison’s hiring also clarified exactly what his role will be:

“Serving as both recruiting coordinator and an assistant coach, Morrison will focus primarily on the Crimson Tide’s recruiting efforts while also supporting Vaughn in all aspects of on-field instruction.”

So Morrison will be hitting the recruiting trail hard the moment he’s wheels down in Tuscaloosa. Given his track record, the addition sounds like a great fit for both sides.

Obviously, Vaughn was fired up about the addition and being able to bring over a guy he worked side by side with at his previous school.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Mike Morrison and his family to Alabama,” said Vaughn of the hire. “Mo won a national championship at Coastal Carolina and brings a wealth of knowledge to Tuscaloosa from both the pitching and recruiting standpoint. He’s as relentless as it gets, and I couldn’t be more excited to have Mike, his wife, Jordan, and their son, Miles, join the Alabama Baseball Family.”

The Morrison addition comes shortly after Vaughn announced the hiring of Anthony Papio a little over a week ago. Papio joins the Crimson Tide staff after also spending previous seasons at Maryland working in various roles, including the last two as an assistant coach.

“I’m fired up to welcome Anthony to Tuscaloosa,” Vaughn said in a release. “Pap played for me at Maryland and has coached beside me the last seven years. He’s the most competitive guy that I’ve ever met. He’s a winner and he loves his players. I could not be more excited to have him and his fiancé, Ally, join us down here at Alabama.”

Coach Vaughn is putting together quite a staff with a couple Maryland guys plus a holdover in the well-respected Jason Jackson.
