Paul Finebaum details how Alabama's hiring approach could change during baseball search
Alabama fired Brad Bohannon and the baseball team promoted Jason Jackson amid the betting scandal in the Crimson Tide program.
Paul Finebaum detailed how Alabama would approach the next hire for the team, whether it’s Jackson or the Crimson Tide look elsewhere for a coach. Finebaum already talked about the perception of the athletic program amid the scandal, Brandon Miller’s situation with the basketball team and more.
Safe to say, the next hire is key.
“This is a competitive world,” Finebaum said on McElroy and Cubelic. “And what you have to do is you have to weigh the excellence on one versus perhaps the deficiencies on the other and we’ve seen that all the time. You mentioned that a minute ago (with the) Texas (basketball) situation. Texas may or may not have fired one of the top basketball coaches in the country.
“He simply was not suitable for their program, and he wasn’t on the beach long Ole Miss hired him, and quite frankly, I didn’t hear that many people question the hire. All I heard from Ole Miss fans was hey, man, we got it. We got ourselves a great coach. I don’t know how long we can keep him.”
Finebaum said sometimes it comes down to overlooking some things to get instant success or prepare yourselves for the long haul.
Alabama might take new approach to next baseball coach
It seems like it’ll be a more cautious approach for Alabama when it comes to the school’s next baseball coach.

“That’s where we are and I do think in this particular case, we talked about Greg (Byrne) a minute ago, yeah. He’ll move on from this,” Finebaum said. “He certainly can’t afford another mistake. So yeah, he’ll be cautious but also you don’t have to weigh the same thing he weighed in this hire. The good versus a bad answer, by the way, he worked for John Cohen. He’s worked for a lot of people in the SEC and this this guy came with good credentials.”
Alabama baseball has a huge process to go through. But it remains to be seen where the Crimson Tide will go.
The Ohio Casino Control Commission first reported “suspicious wagering activity” at the BetMGM sportsbook at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, involving the Alabama versus LSU baseball game and multiple states began to halt bets on Alabama baseball, according to ESPN.
According to Ronnie Johns, the chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, via a report from NOLA.com, two bets were under scrutiny, including one large bet.
