Bryant-Denny Stadium officially has the special new name of the field that they’ll be taking this fall.

Reports came out on Thursday about the renaming of the field down in Tuscaloosa. A day later, the Alabama Board of Trustees have now officially approved the change to ‘Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.’

“Dedicating the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium as Saban Field is a fitting way to honor Coach Saban’s extraordinary contributions to The University of Alabama,” said UA President Stuart R. Bell in a press release. “Coach Saban and Ms. Terry have significantly enriched our community, and this recognition celebrates their lasting legacy. We are grateful to the Board of Trustees for bestowing this great honor.”

“We are thrilled to honor Coach Saban with the naming of Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium,” said Alabama AD Greg Byrne. “He is one of the greatest coaches of all time, impacting countless lives far beyond football. What he and Ms. Terry mean to The University of Alabama and Tuscaloosa community is immeasurable. They continue to be tremendous ambassadors and we look forward to celebrating with them in September.”

Saban and his wife were on the call today for the official approval of the honor. He also shared a few words of his own in that release about this recognition of him.

“We are humbled that The University of Alabama has honored us with the naming of Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium,” said Saban. “The remarkable success that the football program has achieved over the past 17 years is a reflection of the hard work of many student-athletes, coaches and staff. Being leader of the process at Alabama has been the greatest privilege of my life. Terry and I are grateful for the naming of Saban Field, which forever celebrates our accomplishments.”

The official dedication of it won’t take place during ‘Bama’s opener against Western Kentucky on August 31st. The Tide will have it the following week against USF on September 7th.

There’s little to remind anyone of as to why Saban has earned his honor. During his 17 seasons at Alabama, the Tide went 206-29 (.877) overall. That includes nine SEC Championships and six of his NCAA-record seven national championships with three apiece in the BCS and CFP. His players also excelled with four winners of The Heisman Trophy, 58 All-Americans, and 49 first-round draft picks.

Saban is considered the best college football coach of all-time for plenty of reasons. Now, as if he wouldn’t be already, fans will remember him for generations to come with his name officially marking the grounds there in T-Town.
