Alabama cornerback Jameer Grimsley enters NCAA Transfer Portal
One Alabama player has ended his career with the Crimson Tide before it ever began. Cornerback Jameer Grimsley, a 2024 signee and early enrollee, already entered the transfer portal, On3 has learned.
He was a four-star prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings and rated as the No. 157 overall player for the 2024 cycle. Grimsley was also the No. 22 cornerback and the No. 22 prospect out of Florida for his class. Now, he’ll already be finding a second home in the wake of Nick Saban’s retirement from Alabama.
Prior to his arrival on the Alabama campus, the folks at On3’s Bama On Line provided the following breakdown on Grimsley as a recruit:
“Jameer Grimsley’s recruitment exploded in early 2023. His first Power 5 offer was from Penn State on Jan. 17, with over two dozen schools joining the mix in the following two months. Alabama offered Grimsley on Feb. 15, and got him on campus for his first-ever visit two months later.
“An official visit to Bama in mid-June put the Tide over the top. Florida made a late push, but Grimsley’s relationships with Nick Saban and his staff were too much to overcome. Grimsley suffered a foot injury that kept him out most of his senior season, but he’ll be good to go for bowl prep this month.”

More on Alabama portal situation
Grimsley’s departure is just the latest among a slew of players who decided to transfer out of the program after the changeover in coaching regimes.
According to the On3 Transfer Database, the Crimson Tide are currently operating with one of the largest negative transfer deficits in the country, having landed just three transfer commitments while having lost 26 players and counting so far this cycle. Some of those losses are massive not just for the Tide but for the entire college football landscape.
Per the On3 Transfer Portal Player Rankings, there are already three Alabama exports who rank in the top-five overall, including the No. 1 overall transfer in Caleb Downs, who shined as a superstar safety in his true freshman season this past fall. Other top-ranked transfers include No. 4 Kadyn Proctor, an offensive tackle, and No. 5 Isaiah Bond, a wideout who’s already committed to Texas.
