Alabama, Courtney Morgan agree to three-year extension, averaging $825,000 per year, per report
According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Alabama and general manager Courtney Morgan have agreed on a new three-year contract just ahead of the 2024 season. Morgan has been a key addition to Kalen DeBoer‘s staff since being hired and is now getting a pay increase, reportedly set to make $825,000 a year.
The extension for Morgan comes after Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans came after him to be the program’s President of Football. Instead, Morgan will stay in Tuscaloosa and continue to work for the Crimson Tide.
“Alabama and its star GM Courtney Morgan have agreed to a new three-year deal that will average about $825,000 per year, sources tell @247sports/ @CBSSports,” Zenitz said via X. “Morgan, a leading figure in the college front office space, was pursued for a president of football role by USC but stayed at Bama.”
On3’s Pete Nakos has confirmed the story.
Morgan had worked under DeBoer well before coming to Alabama. The two most recently were in Seattle for two seasons with Washington, helping the Huskies build a roster worthy of winning a Pac-12 title and eventually making the national championship game.
The other sideline in Houston had Morgan’s hands on it as well. Michigan employed Morgan during the 2021 season — his alma mater. An incredible recent resume for him after previously working at Fresno State, San Diego State, and UCLA as well.

Many people questioned the recruiting job DeBoer had in front of him when accepting the Alabama job. Coming from the West Coast, there was no prior experience in the South. Some thought not having Nick Saban behind the Alabama logo would see the Crimson Tide take down a peg or two.
Thus far, there have not been any issues, at least from a rankings standpoint. Alabama’s 2025 recruiting class currently sits at No. 2 per the On3 Industry Team Rankings, only behind Ohio State. Twenty players are committed, with two-thirds of them being blue-chip guys.
Dorian Barney, a four-star CB from Carrollton (GA) High School is the lone commit of the 2026 class. Two rising sophomores are in the class at the moment and both rank inside the top 60 per the recently released 2027 On3 Top 100 rankings.
Morgan has been a key figure behind it all, serving as the general manager. Success has followed Morgan everywhere he has worked and for at least the next three seasons, Alabama will use his talents to their advantage.
