Alabama's Dom Welch to wear No. 10 next season to honor victims from Buffalo shooting
In honor of the 10 victims who lost their lives in last month’s mass shooting at a Tops supermarket in Buffalo, Dominick Welch, a Buffalo native and incoming grad transfer, will wear No. 10 for the Alabama men’s basketball this upcoming season, the basketball program announced.
Welch isn’t the only member of the Crimson Tide with ties to Buffalo, however, as head coach Nate Oats began his head coaching career at the University of Buffalo, where he was named MAC Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019 before taking over as Alabama’s headman.
Welch transferred into the program last month after spending four years with the program. During his final season with the Bonnies, Welch averaged 12.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists during the 2021-22 season. He also shot 41.4% from the field and 37.4% from three-point range.
With the addition of Welch, Alabama has formed a seven-man recruiting class in 2022. From the high school ranks, the Tide have landed commitments from five-star forward Brandon Miller, four-star guards Jaden Bradley and Rylan Griffen, and four-star PF Noah Clowney, not to mention former JUCO star forward Nick Pringle and Ohio point guard transfer Mark Sears.
