Jaylen Moody addresses his goals on improving at consistency
Jaylen Moody has spent the last four seasons at Alabama as a reserve on the defensive side of the ball, but as a fifth-year senior, finally has the opportunity to earn himself a stop in the Crimson Tide’s regular rotation if everything pans as planned.
For things to go accordingly for Moody, he’s been spending fall camp picking out the flaws in his game and finding out how to better himself as a football player ahead of his final season of collegiate eligibility.
“I feel like I have been making improvements in that area, trying to be a better version of myself on the field as well as off the field,” Moody said. “Just trying to make strides of being a better player as a leader on the field, doing all the right things that I need to do. Being in a better position, being in the right spot when I need to and just doing my job. I think I have made improvements in that area.”
Moody has contributed mostly on special teams throughout his career, while also occasionally seeing time as a backup linebacker. This year he has a chance to carve out a role as the starting weakside linebacker, and has seemed to show his ability to perform in fall camp.

Something that will help not only Moody, but the entire Alabama defense stay consistent is the fact that there’s a veteran every corner you turn your head. All 11 positions have some type of experienced veteran or senior stepping in to the starting lineup.
“Having seniors at every position, it helps with leadership and putting guys in order,” Moody said. “That also, with that being said, having guys who can show you how it’s done, the right way, so that other guys who are under you can see how it’s done and you can follow their steps. Having seniors in those spots and leaders, that’s a big thing.”
The first chance fans will have to see Moody and the Crimson Tide defense will be on Sept. 3 when they battle Utah State at home. That game is slated to kick off from Tuscaloosa at 7:30 p.m. ET live on the SEC Network.
