Bryce Young doubles down on ‘failure’ of 2021 season
Bryce Young was one of the Alabama representatives at SEC Media Days and his message was crystal clear in Atlanta. He said the 2021 season was a failure after losing the national championship against Georgia. Although there was a conference title and another CFP win, the quarterback is far from happy with how the year ended.
Making his way down radio row, Young doubled down on his first year as the starting quarterback being a failure. He said there is stuff to celebrate, both as a team and individually, but the goal in Tuscaloosa is to raise the College Football Playoff trophy. Not doing so in Indianapolis will be the motivation for the 2022 season.
“There’s stuff, as a team, we did well,” Young said. “Proud individually. Not that anything went bad, by any means but at the end of the day, our goal when we sat down — my goal individually, our goal as a team — was to win a national championship. We didn’t get it done. There’s stuff we can build off of but ultimately, we failed last year. Now it’s on us to take that, internalize that feeling, learn from it, and turn it into something constructive. Use it as fuel so we don’t have to feel it again.”
There’s no exact revenge against Georgia on the schedule just yet but it’s entirely possible, with SEC Championship and CFP appearances pending. However, Young will take the schedule one weekend at a time, beginning with Utah State on Sept. 3.

Bryce Young on how he will improve after Heisman Trophy
From an individual standpoint, Young is fresh off a Heisman Trophy. However, he still wants to improve for Alabama’s upcoming national championship run. Young has still been working toward the team goal, bettering himself on a daily basis.
“Winning the Heisman is obviously a huge honor but I also understand that it doesn’t entitle me to anything,” Young said. “It’s an award that celebrates one season that I had in the past, which is again an honor, but it doesn’t mean anything towards me moving forward, you know, it doesn’t entitle me to anything.
“Because of that, I don’t feel like I am where I need to be. I don’t feel like I’m a finished product by any means. There’s a lot of stuff that I want to keep getting better at. There’s definitely stuff for me to work on whether it’s individual stuff or stuff as a team to get better, so I’m working day in and day out to improve myself.”
