Bryce Young reveals history, chemistry with Jermaine Burton
The Alabama Crimson Tide and quarterback Bryce Young lost some significant production at the wide receiver position after wideouts John Metchie III and Jameson Williams were picked up in the 2022 NFL Draft. Fortunately, Alabama found a suitable replacement in the transfer portal in former Georgia Bulldogs star receiver Jermaine Burton. During a recent interview, Young revealed the history the two share and the chemistry between them.
“I didn’t get to do the in-depth film break. I was just watching the defense when we played Georgia; but you do kind of inadvertently know all the players in the SEC, just from watching film… You watch everyone on the film since we’re all playing the same people, and on film, obviously how explosive he was, what really popped,” said Young.
“He was someone I knew before. He spent some time in California. I went there in his last two years. So I knew him from high school. But it makes a lot of sense when you’re around him. He’s someone who comes to work every day with a great attitude. Before every walkthrough, he’s coming up to me like let’s get it; let’s have a great practice and get better.”
Burton’s demeanor this offseason
Earlier in the offseason, Burton announced he would be transferring to Alabama to the shock of both current and former Bulldogs alike. After being on the winning side of the national championship during the 2021 season, Burton will now be trying to get revenge on his former team with Young and the Crimson Tide. So far, he’s shown that fire to compete and then some, in the spring and now in fall camp.

“He wants to compete with the corners, talking to them and is willing to work. Whether it’s in a meeting room, knowing how to run things, knowing what we’re expecting, what I like, what he likes; and then on the field, he’s always giving everything. Finishing routes finishing plays, he’s super competitive, willing to run any route, play any role, not selfish at all… I’m super excited to keep watching him.”
Burton will look to make an immediate impact with the Crimson Tide. And with how Alabama’s offense is set up, along with having last year’s Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback, Burton could be a much larger part of the Crimson tide’s offense in comparison to his time with the Bulldogs.
The two California natives appear to be developing a solid relationship in Tuscaloosa. And if it blossoms and matures on the field, in crunch time situations, both Burton and Young will find themselves playing for another national championship, but this time together.
