Alabama DB Tony Mitchell plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal
Alabama defensive back Tony Mitchell plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Mitchell appeared in seven games as a true freshman in Tuscaloosa. In those games, he played mostly on special teams but got one tackle against MTSU in the season opener.
In the spring before his first season, Mitchell dealt with a punishment that stemmed from an arrest in March. A chase with law enforcement led to a discovery of cash, marijuana, scales, and a gun in the vehicle. In the end, Mitchell got a sentence of a three-year probation and 100 hours of community service along with a suspension from the team.
Mitchell played high school football at Thompson (AL) where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 116 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He finished as the No. 10 safety in the class and a top-dozen player out of the state of Alabama.
Mitchell is the latest subtraction from the program in the portal following the change from Nick Saban to Kalen DeBoer as head coach of the Crimson Tide.

Alabama adds another defensive back
Alabama is adding Charlotte transfer Kameron Howard to its secondary. Howard announced on Monday that he has committed to the Crimson Tide.
As a true freshman last season, Kameron Howard played in 12 game and made two starts. He finished the year with 38 tackles, one pass breakup and two interceptions.
Howard attended St. Frances Academy prior to beginning his college career. He helped SFA to a 9-1 record against a tough schedule as a senior.

The Maryland native should provide depth for an Alabama program that lost a lot of talent off of last year’s team.
The Crimson Tide had 10 players drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, including defensive backs Terrion Arnold and Kool-Aid McKinstry, who were selected in the first and second round.
Alabama also lost star safety Caleb Downs off of last year’s team as he transferred to Ohio State this offseason.
Kameron Howard will look to help the Alabama defense next year and beyond as he is only entering his sophomore season.
