Alabama‘s football program has been one of the final four teams in the College Football Playoff in eight of the last 10 seasons. But the Crimson Tide basketball team has recently followed suit, advancing to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

Led by head coach Nate Oats, Alabama’s remarkable run has rightfully garnered plenty of attention, including from new football defensive coordinator Kane Wommack. Who recently shared that he actually has some history with Oats dating back to his coaching days at Indiana.

“I’ve gotten to know Coach Oats a few years ago,” Wommack said. “In fact, Tom Allen who I worked for and who Kalen [DeBoer] worked for, Nate went to the same college years ago as Tom Allen. And so I kind of made that connection years ago.”

You can watch the tournament live on Prime Video, add on your favorite channels and watch at home or on your phone and laptop at work!

Wommack spent the 2019 season on Indiana’s coaching staff alongside DeBoer before they went their separate ways and reunited in Tuscaloosa this offseason. As the two will look to maintain the lofty standards for the Crimson Tide set by legendary head coach Nick Saban following his recent retirement.

But on the hardwood Oats is setting a new standard for Alabama’s basketball program, leading them to the Sweet Sixteen in three of his five seasons with the team along with the school’s second Elite Eight appearance this season and their first-ever trip to the Final Four. Also boasting eight NBA Draft selections during his tenure in Tuscaloosa.

“Always been impressed with him, love the way he carries himself, the way he leads his team. It is fun to watch people that do things at a really high level and do things the right way have success,” Wommack said regarding Oats. “And so to see Coach Oats and what that team has done, and how hard they have worked, and you see a bunch of guys that are seniors now that have worked a long time to get to this point be rewarded on the back end of their careers is really special. So excited to see them.”

Alabama’s high-powered offense has fueled their NCAA Tournament run, scoring 89.7 points per game in March Madness led by the impressive play of point guard Mark Sears. But the Crimson Tide will face their biggest challenge yet on Saturday, as they’ll face top-seeded UConn in a Final Four matchup that tips off at 8:49 p.m. ET on TBS.
