Alabama football took to social media on Tuesday to announce the passing of former offensive linemen Grant Hill.

“Grant Hill was a wonderful human and teammate and friend,” the post from the official Alabama football twitter account stated. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”

Though details of Hill’s death are unclear as of now, the Alabama Crimson Tide community will surely remember the 6-foot-6 offensive linemen who joined the team in 2013 as one of the top prospects in the country.

“You couldn’t ask for a guy [who] has better intangibles,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said about Hill as a freshman in an article with ESPN. “When you have great intangibles, that’s what helps you sort of accomplish whatever your goals are, whatever your vision is for what you want to do.”

Hill played for the Alabama football program from 2013-2015 and was utilized primarily in a reserve role on the offensive line. The Huntsville Ala. native was a four-star recruit in the class of 2013. He was also a standout track and field athlete coming out of high school.

Scott Sharp, who served as Hill’s football coach before he made the move to the collegiate ranks, praised the former Crimson Tide big man for his work ethic.

“Usually, the guys who are bigger may not have that hunger or that desire, but Grant is an extremely hard worker whether it’s in the weight room or on the field,” Scott Sharp, Hill’s coach at Huntsville High, told ESPN at the time of his commitment. “He has that meanness that you look for in those offensive linemen. He really has the desire to finish plays, finish blocks. And to not just block folks, but maul them.”

Hill’s former Alabama football teammate Anthony Steen echoed that sentiment.

“He’s fast and strong, which I wasn’t expecting that,” UA right guard Steen said during Hill’s freshman campaign. He obviously wants to start. Every day he gets up at 6 a.m.”

Hill was just 26 years old at the time of his death.
