Alabama Crimson Tide defensive lineman Jaheim Oatis has been putting in work since enrolling a semester early this January. Coming into the program at 416 pounds, the freshman defensive tackle shared an update after fans took notice of his body transformation at Saturday’s spring game. He’s lost a whopping 46 pounds over the last four months, and he’s not done yet.

“January/and Now 46lbs down I’m coming for what’s mine!!!” Oatis tweeted with some flexed bicep emojis on Monday. “Closer to my goal.,. Was 416 lbs now 370 with 21% body …. You can do anything you put your mind into guys!!!!”

The 6-foot-4 defensive tackle out of Columbia, Miss., was a top-100 recruit when he signed with the Tide. He was the No. 80 overall prospect and No. 11 defensive tackle in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Although it’s unlikely that Oatis factors in for Alabama in year one, his weight loss so far is a promising sign of what’s to come for him.

Nick Saban shares what he learned from Alabama spring game

Alabama head coach Nick Saban spoke on the field immediately after the spring game ended, commenting on what he learned from the day. Team White defeated Team Crimson 25-7 in the annual A-Day Game at Bryant-Denny Stadium, giving Saban plenty of information to work with about how his players performed in game-type situations.

Saban’s only specific takeaway from the contest was the pass rush’s effectiveness against their offensive line.

“I think you learn about your team all season long, but today was a day that you really see showtime,” said Saban after the game. “You know, who can play, who couldn’t play. Who could go out there and be responsible to do the things that they needed to do to play winning football. We’re gonna learn a lot about the guys that did that. Obviously, we had a tough time blocking the pass rush, too many sacks. So we’ve got a lot of things to work on. But it’s good to know. And we’ve got other good players that we’re trying to get in there so we do better in the fall.”
