Alabama guard Davin Cosby plans to enter the transfer portal
Alabama guard Davin Cosby plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. Cosby only played one season with the Crimson Tide after using his redshirt in his true freshman season.
In his lone active season in Tuscaloosa, Cosby made 22 appearances, averaging 3.6 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game while shooting 36.6% from the field and 34.4% from beyond the arc. He played 7.8 minutes per contest.
Cosby was unavailable in the NCAA Tournament after suffering an injury following the regular season. Alabama head coach Nate Oats provided more information on the injury before the NCAA Tournament began.
“Davin broke his foot in practice earlier this week, so he’s out,” Oats said. “We’re not a hundred percent fully healthy. That’s the one injury, and it was unfortunate. I think he stepped on somebody’s foot. He continued to practice, but then when we got it X-rayed after practice, it’s got a break in one of the bones, so he is out.”
Davin Cosby played high school basketball at Word Of God Christian Academy (NC), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 116 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

When Cosby initially committed to Alabama, he claimed the university felt like home.
“I chose Alabama because it felt like home as soon as I stepped on campus,” Cosby told On3. “The environment is great and I love the play style. The coaching staff and players are family and I fit in well with them.”
Nate Oats solidifies future at Alabama
Cosby is the third Alabama player to enter the transfer portal, joining Kris Parker and Rylan Griffen. Cosby’s move comes despite Oats’ decision to remain at Kentucky. Earlier this week, Kentucky reportedly contacted Oats about its head coach opening, but Oats opted to stay at Alabama.
Oats quickly made his position clear with a message to fans.
“I am fully committed to this team and to this University,” Oats wrote on X. “We have already accomplished some great things here, and there is nothing I want more than for The University of Alabama to win its first national championship in men’s basketball. Despite any rumors to the contrary, rest assured that I will continue that pursuit as your head coach.”
Cosby seemingly won’t be along for the ride as examines his options in the ever-expanding transfer portal.
