Alabama is fresh off of their 32-31 upset loss to LSU this weekend where their star quarterback Bryce Young was under duress constantly throughout the night. Young was only sacked twice, but was hurried ten times in their loss and took a multitude of hits.

Young suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder in their week 5 matchup against Arkansas that caused him to miss some time, and he’s since been limited at practice. Following their recent loss, head coach Nick Saban was asked about his quarterback’s health before and after their hard fought battle with the Tigers.

“Well, all indications in terms of what he says to us, to me, to the medical staff is that he feels good, that he’s fine,” Saban said. “I guess you would have to ask him to really get a sense of how he feels, but he is telling us that he is fine. He said he was fine in practice relative to what he did.”

The Crimson Tide have gone 1-2 since Young has returned to the lineup for them, suffering their only two losses of the season during their latest three-week stretch, but Saban made it clear that their offense as a whole needs to improve their play surrounding their former Hesiman Trophy-winning quarterback.

“But look, we need to do a better job around Bryce, we go to protect him better, we can’t let people push the pocket on him. We got to do a better job of running routes so that we have trust that people are doing exactly what they’re supposed to do and then we got to read it out and throw it to the right guy. That was the goal going into the game and that’s something that we all need to do a better job of,” Saban said.

Young has thrown over 50 pass attempts in two of Alabama’s last three games since his return from injury. This combined with the consistent pressure in the pocket and hits he has taken during this three-week losing stretch for the Tide definitely makes their star quarterback’s health worth watching as he’s taken on a lion’s share of their offensive workload.
