Alabama‘s last two losses have drawn a lot of attention to the program, as the team that has seen themselves in six of the last eight National Championship games seems to have slim chances of making it to So Fi Stadium in January. Concern has even been shown from their former players, as former Crimson Tide quarterback and current analyst Greg McElroy said this is the first time he has been concerned with the future of the Alabama program, which head coach Nick Saban responded to.

“Well we work every day to try to get our players to play to a standard and we’ve had a lot of good teams around here for a long time,” Saban said. “We lost two games by a total of four points, both on the last play of the game.”

The Crimson Tide’s two losses may be the best in the country, as they were both on the road in two of the most hostile environments in the country to two teams currently ranked in the top seven in Tennessee and LSU, in close games like Saban mentioned. Despite this, Saban is not making excuses and would like to see better play from his squad.

“So are there a lot of things that we can do better, are we satisfied with where we are as a team?” Saban asked. “Absolutely not. But at the same time sometimes when the standard is so high there may be some occasion where you don’t quite meet the standard and the expectation that everybody has for you.”

Saban also touched on the heightened expectations that McElroy, and essentially everyone, has for the Crimson Tide, and how his team could possibly be suffering the side effects of the attempting to meet them.

“I do think that standard and expectation has not been something that has helped this team focus on the right things, stay focused on the process, not get so concerned about the results you get, but what you’ve got to do to get the results,” Saban said. “And that’s something we’ve been trying to emphasize with them.”

Whatever improvements need to be made for the Crimson Tide need to be made fast, as they take on their fourth straight ranked SEC opponent on the road this weekend, as Saban will face his former assistant coach Lane Kiffin and No. 11 Ole Miss on Saturday.
