Alabama hires former NFL, SEC quarterback as assistant
Alabama is bringing a former SEC star quarterback to its coaching staff. According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, the Crimson Tide have hired former LSU and NFL quarterback Zach Mettenberger as an analyst.
“Alabama has hired former LSU and NFL QB Zach Mettenberger as an analyst,” tweeted Zenitz. “He’s already listed in the Crimson Tide’s staff directory. Mettenberger threw for 3,082 yards and 22 TDs at LSU in 2013.”
Moreover, Mettenberger began coaching after playing a season for the Memphis Express in the Alliance of American Football. His first opportunity came in 2020 at Hillboro High School in Tennessee, where he was the team’s offensive coordinator. Then, he was hired as the assistant football coach at Father Ryan High School in Tennessee.
Evidently, Nick Saban saw enough in the former quarterback to bring him onto his staff. As for Zach Mettenberger, the opportunity to learn from one of the greatest in the sport will prove to be an invaluable opportunity.

More on Zach Mettenberger, Alabama Crimson Tide
Furthermore, Zach Mettenberger has immense experience within the SEC. During his college years, the quarterback led the LSU Tigers — passing for 35 touchdowns over three seasons. After his time with the Tigers, Mettenberger took his talents to the NFL.
There, the quarterback spent two seasons with the Tennessee Titans. Afterwards, he bounced around a bit — landing with the San Diego Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers. After flaming out of the league following the 2016 season, Mettenberger’s next chance came in the Alliance of American Football with the Memphis Express.
While his playing career never went the way he wanted it to go, Zach Mettenberger is looking to improve on the next chapter of his football story. In the past, there’s been no better jumping off point than Alabama. The future is bright for the former star SEC quarterback turned assistant coach.
