Joel Klatt explains why Alabama can still get to SEC Championship Game
Despite a non-conference loss to Texas, Alabama can still get to the SEC Championship amid questions of their prowess, according to Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt.
Jalen Milroe was up and down at the quarterback position, and there could be a short leash, and Alabama suddenly looks like a dead dynasty. Never fear, Klatt thinks the Crimson Tide will be just fine.
He joined The Herd to explain what you could see from Alabama for the remainder of the season.
“Well, it’s still hard to say that because if you look at their schedule, Texas was really the only team on their schedule that can do to Bama, what they did Saturday night,” Klatt said. “Not many teams are going to force Bama into a must throw, you’re-in-a-deficit-mode. And if they don’t play in that mode, and they have a lead, and they can run the football, then they’re going to be fine.”
Based on the SEC West this season, Alabama is likely still the favorite to come out of the division and make it to the conference championship game.
“So I hesitate because maybe they make a change at quarterback,” Klatt said. “Maybe they don’t, Milroe starts getting a little bit better. They’re gonna win most of their games. LSU is not stopping them. LSU doesn’t know how to play with Harold Perkins all of a sudden. There’s the best defender in college football and I’ve got him off the ball as a linebacker that can’t make a tackle for loss. It’s wild, the coaching mistakes that are going on at LSU.”

Alabama will be just fine, Joel Klatt says
At this point, nothing stands in the way of Alabama, according to Klatt. Except of course, perhaps Georgia at the end of the season.
“So I look at Bama and I’m like, nothing prevents them from running the table in the SEC and at least playing Georgia in the SEC Championship Game,” Klatt said. “So at that point, like I just don’t buy into this Bama’s done type of talk. I just think Texas is really good this year.”
So it seems like Texas is that good. Could we see a College Football Playoff rematch?
Well, if it gets that far, it’s fair to circle back to the conversation, in a hypothetical sense of course. However, Nick Saban made no bones about where his team stands.
“If guys want security in their position, they need to play well,” Saban said, regarding potential changes in certain positions. “Everybody on our team knows that and I think everybody’s responded in a positive way to try to get better and to improve and we’ll constantly evaluate that position as we do every other position.”
