Alabama football did a lot of things perfectly last season, including a 13-0 record on the way to a national championship. But in a season that included breakout stars across the field, one of the most surprising was kicker Will Reichard. After battling injuries as a freshman, Reichard put together a perfect season on special teams.

Reichard went 14-for-14 in 2020 with a long of 52 yards. He added 84 extra points without missing to bring his season point total to 126, good for third behind running back Najee Harris and wide receiver DeVonta Smith. As Alabama’s top returning scorer, Reichard is focused on this season and adapting to change.

Reichard spoke with the media about kicking during his Thursday press conference.

Read what Will Reichard had to say:

On his perfect season

“It was in my head; I knew about it. But at the end of the day, you’re only as good as your next rep so you have to go out there and execute to the best of your ability and all that stuff is kind of behind me now. I’m looking forward to the season and doing what I can do every day to get better.”

On a new holder and snapper

“They look great, they’ve gotten better every single day and they’re young guys so as long as they keep making progress. I’ve been really proud of them. They’ve really stepped up and we’ve just been trying to give them confidence and I think it’s going to turn out really well. We’ve got a lot of talented young guys in our room.”

On new special teams coordinator Drew Svoboda

“He’s been awesome, he really knows how to explain everything to all the guys and the thing that he tells us is just owning your routine. Every time you go out on the field you have a certain routine that you do and make sure that you do the same one every time and just own it. So, he’s done a great job and I’m really happy to be coached by him.”

On strength and conditioning coaches David Ballou and Matt Rhea

“They’ve definitely helped me a lot. Dr. Rhea was a kicker in college, so he knows a lot about kicking training as well, whether that’s certain muscle groups in your body that need more work. So, they’ve definitely helped out a lot, especially in this group as well because Dr. Rhea has a lot of experience kicking and punting.”
