The Alabama Crimson Tide just picked up a big commitment from former Louisville Cardinals wide receiver Tyler Harrell. Harrell took to Twitter to announce the news on Friday afternoon.

This past season at Louisville, Harrell played in 12 games, bringing in 18 receptions for 523 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 29.1 yards per reception. His ability to create plays with his speed down the field should fit in seamlessly in an offense that is looking to replace Jameson Williams and John Metchie at wide receiver.

Harrell visited Alabama over last weekend, and just a week later he has officially decided to play for Nick Saban with the Crimson Tide. He is a former three-star prospect out of Florida, and he is the No. 111 wide receiver in this year’s transfer portal cycle.

Harrell could fill an important role in Alabama’s receiver room

With Jameson Williams, John Metchie, and Slade Bolden in the 2022 NFL Draft, Alabama is in need of more players to step up at receiver. Adding Harrell to the mix is a great move for Alabama’s offense. Additionally, Alabama has added former Georgia receiver Jermaine Burton over the offseason.

With a lot of new faces and young players getting opportunities to earn bigger roles in the offense next season, there could be some growing pains. Saban wasn’t thrilled with how the unit looked during Alabama’s A-Day spring game, but adding a player with Harrell could help ease some of those concerns.

“I think we got a little bit a little more consistent,” Saban said. “We had some drops in the last scrimmage where we didn’t have bad conditions, and we had some today. The conditions cannot be an excuse. I mean, you got to be able to play and adapt whatever the circumstances are, we can’t control the weather.

“I think there’s focus, concentration, maturity, all those things go with that. Some of the are young guys have been making an impact this spring.”

In addition to potentially filling the hole left by Williams, Harrell could turn in similar production in his first year at Alabama. Williams immediately saw a big uptick in production following his decision to transfer to Alabama, and Harrell will be hoping for similar success next season.
