Report: New Alabama OC Ryan Grubb 'under consideration' for Seahawks offensive coordinator job
When the college coaching carousel gets to spinning up, grab hold of a railing and just hang on until it stops, because the activity can get quite confounding and circular. Alabama fans may be just about to find that out.
According to a report from NBCSports.com, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb is under consideration to become the next offensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks. Should he depart for the gig it would leave a sizeable hole on the Alabama coaching staff.
For what it’s worth, Grubb was on the road recruiting for Alabama as of Wednesday afternoon.
Grubb followed head coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama earlier this offseason.
His potential turn back to the state of Washington would leave Alabama in an interesting place, having to hire a coordinator after most of the coaching carousel for this cycle has already come to a halt. Of course, that should prove no problem for the Tide, which represent an attractive opening at all times.
Grubb has spent the last four years on staff with DeBoer, spending the last two years in Washington and the two years prior to that at Fresno State.

DeBoer and Grubb have been together across multiple stops dating back to the mid-2000s at Sioux Falls. Grubb followed DeBoer to Fresno State where they became the most potent offensive unit in the Mountain West Conference. Once again, he followed DeBoer to Seattle for their next stop, at Washington.
In two seasons there, DeBoer and Grubb took the nation by storm by turning Michael Penix Jr. into one of the best quarterbacks in the country. In their first season in Washington during 2022, Washington led the nation in both passing offense (369.8 yards per game) and third-down conversions (57 percent). Washington also finished second in total offense with 515.8 yards per game.
This past season under Grubb’s guidance, Penix Jr. finished No. 2 in the Heisman Trophy race. Once Washington finished the regular season undefeated, won the Pac-12 Championship, and defeated Texas in the College Football Playoff semifinal — it was clear DeBoer and Grubb had become a great head coach-offensive coordinator duo.
Now it appears Grubb may have the chance to branch out on his own at an elite level.
