Alabama offers Ohio State 2025 4-star CB commit Jontae Gilbert
Atlanta (Ga.) Douglass four-star cornerback Jontae Gilbert received an offer from Alabama during a visit to Tuscaloosa on Friday. He has been committed to Ohio State since July 29.
Gilbert is the No. 42 overall prospect and No. 4 cornerback in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 6 player in Georgia.
“They’ve been coming by the school and talking to my coaches about me every week and always checking in on me,” Gilbert recently told On3’s Sam Spiegelman about the Crimson Tide. “It’s great and I want to continue learning from (Travaris Robinson). It’s been cool getting to know him and coach (Nick) Saban is cool.”
Alabama does not currently have any cornerbacks in its 2025 recruiting class. However, the Crimson Tide have a pledge from Saraland (Ala.) four-star wide receiver Ryan Williams, the No. 7 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking.
Right now, Gilbert is feeling good about the Buckeyes. He echoed that sentiment that Matt Parker of Lettermen Row on March 10.
“Everything is good and I’m locked in,” Gilbert told Lettermen Row. “Things are great with coach (Tim) Walton. He texts me every day and has sent me videos from spring practices so far.”

Gilbert also shared with Parker that he and Walton are very close. As a result, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back feels comfortable seeing other schools.
“I just want to explore my options and make sure that I made the right decision,” Gilbert said. “(Walton) will ask me about the visits and he’s a great coach and a great man.

“He trusts me and he believes in me.”
Three schools working to land Gilbert are Georgia, Tennessee and USC. He spoke with Spiegelman about those programs.
Georgia: “Georgia’s coming hard. Coach Kirby (Smart), Coach Fran (Brown) are coming hard for me, too.”
Tennessee: “Tennessee is coming at me hard. Coach (Tim) Banks says I fit their defense. I can play safety, cornerback and nickel, and that’s big for me.”
USC: “Donte Williams is coming hard. He’s trying to get me there in the summer. I can’t wait to see the culture.”
Gilbert has visited the Bulldogs multiple times since his commitment.
“(Coach Brown) is great,” Gilbert told Jake Reuse of DawgsHQ on March 5. “We text every week, and he’s always checking in on me every week. He’s checking with my coaches to see how I’m doing in the weight room and stuff. They are really big on me, and they want me to stay at home.”
“It feels like home, to be honest,” he added. “It was the love I got when I got down there from the whole coaching staff. It’s been about how they’ve built the relationship. (The National Championships are) really big. They like winning. All you do is win. That’s the place to be, really.”
