Bryce Young explains how he manages to stay calm under pressure
It’s no secret that players can get rattled on the field during a game – especially quarterbacks. While they’re the offensive pilot and trying to make the proper plays in order to move the ball and score points, there are many times when something doesn’t go right and the blame is quickly put on them.
However, for Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, he manages to stay calm under pressure by having the proper mindset and approaching situations in a calm state. While meeting with reporters earlier this week, Young explained exactly how he remains calm when something doesn’t go his way on the field.
“I think it comes with experience,” Young said. “When you start playing athletics, you kind of just feel everything out and feel your process out. For me, I’ve kind of realized just how I operate the best and function the best is to be in a calm state of mind. For me, it’s just being in that mindset as much as I can and just try to maximize my efficiency and do what’s best for the team. It comes through reps, it comes through experience and, truthfully, it really comes through faith for me. For me, kind of how I look at everything is I’m not really in control of what happens. I’m not in control of the outcome for me. I’m a vessel and I’m a tool that’s being used.
“So for me, everything’s already written, everything’s been determined. I have complete trust and faith in how everything’s going to unfold. That kind of clarity, that really takes any sort of pressure out for me. That’s just how I believe and how I live by, so for me that’s how I view it. That helps me be in the mindset that I am.”

Young, a former On3 Consensus five-star quarterback who’s a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, has put together a strong season for the Crimson Tide in 2021 – having currently thrown for 4,322 yards and 43 touchdowns compared to just four interceptions. He’s led his Alabama squad to the No. 1 ranking in the College Football Playoff, and they’ll open semifinal play Dec. 31 in the Cotton Bowl against No. 4 Cincinnati at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Young praises teammates after being named team MVP, captain
Heading into the College Football Playoff, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young met with the media to share his thoughts on what it means to be the Crimson Tide’s Most Valuable Player and a permanent team captain.
“That means everything to me,” Young said. “The fact that it came from my teammates, it came from my guys and to have the opportunity to win that award and also to be team captain, a permanent team captain … not a lot of people can have that honor, and that’s not something I take lightly at all. I understand that means a lot me. It’s something I take a lot of pride in, and again for it to come from my guys, my teammates – that makes it exponentially sweeter.
“It’s definitely a blessing for me and something I don’t take lightly at all.”
