Alabama star quarterback Jalen Milroe can relate to what new Crimson Tide QB Julian Sayin is going through at the moment.

Sayin is a five-star Alabama commit who is currently on campus for Alabama’s bowl prep ahead of the Rose Bowl against Michigan. He is able to attend and take part in practices, even though he can’t play in the postseason. Milroe shared how he is trying to help Sayin make the adjustment from high school football to college.

“For me, I’ve been in his shoes – being a freshman that’s coming into college,” Jalen Milroe said. “And all I can try to do is give him the information I’ve got and really try to allow him to be a sponge from the information I have. And be a good teammate for him.”

Expectations are sky high for Julian Sayin, who is ranked as a five-star recruit and the No. 5 overall player in the country for the class of 2024, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

Jalen Milroe is returning for the 2024 season, so Sayin is unlikely to play much as a freshman. But Milroe is doing everything he can to try to set him up for success at the college level.

“With him, he spins the ball really well. It’s been really good to have him in the room, have another guy in the room,” Milroe said. “With everything, I’m just appreciative to have another brother in the room. He’s doing a really good job practicing and he’s a good dude.”

Paul Finebaum reacts to Jalen Milroe’s decision to return to Alabama in 2024

Early in the season, many may have been okay with Alabama finding a new quarterback to replace Jalen Milroe next year, perhaps even Julian Sayin. Instead, after his turnaround over the course of the campaign, there’s few around the Crimson Tide who aren’t ecstatic about Milroe’s decision to return to Tuscaloosa in 2024.

On SportsCenter on Monday, Paul Finebaum noted that it really shouldn’t have been too much of a shock. With how his season played out, he thinks this was the likeliest outcome when it came to Milroe’s football future.

“I think the biggest surprise about this is how much news it is making,” said Finebaum. “I don’t know anyone in Alabama, at the university or elsewhere, who thought Jalen Milroe was going anywhere else.

“We all know his backstory. He got demoted to third team three weeks into the season, came back, and became, nearly, a Heisman finalist. … He’s making the right decision.”
