The spotlight on Alabama‘s offensive struggles was magnified in their Week 3 win over USF, defeating the Bulls just 17-3 as Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson quarterbacked the offense. But ever since then, Jalen Milroe has been the team’s unquestioned signal caller, leading them to three straight conference wins and an undefeated record in SEC play.

Milroe is fresh off of his best performance of the season as the Crimson Tide defeated Texas A&M 26-20 on Saturday, and as the team now shifts their focus to Arkansas, Milroe was asked what he believes the strength of the Alabama offense is as they continue to slowly but surely build their identity.

“I think the biggest thing is just embracing our challenges, embracing all what comes with playing Alabama football,” Milroe said. “I think that’s the strength we have, just the positive mindset we all have no matter good, bad, or ugly.”

There is a lot that comes with playing Alabama football, and expectations are likely near the very top of that list. Athletes do their best to avoid the outside noise, but it was likely pretty loud early in the season when it was apparent that the Crimson Tide offense was struggling in certain areas.

Alabama’s offensive personnel can’t be changed, and decisions regarding their scheme are likely out of the hands of their players. But what the Crimson Tide’s offensive unit can control is their mindset and ability to stay in the moment, which has been serving them well so far this season in conference play.

“It’s just a challenge to always have the right mindset. One thing, one motto that we have is just now mentality. The now mentality of what’s taking place right now, I think that’s a very big strength that we have as an offense and something we can always improve on,” Milroe said.

Alabama’s mindset may be the strength of their offense according to Milroe, but for the majority of the season, it’s been their rushing attack. The Crimson Tide have been reliant on running backs like Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams as well as the legs of Milroe who has 158 rushing yards and a team-leading four rushing scores on the season.

On Saturday versus the Aggies their ground game was erased, but Milroe delivered with his arm throwing for a career-high 321 yards and three touchdown passes. As a result wide receiver Jermaine Burton was able to match a career-high as well with 197 yards and two touchdown catches on nine receptions.

It will be interesting to see how the Crimson Tide passing game evolves moving forward along with its balance with the run game. But when it comes to the strength of their offense, it’s not something that can’t necessarily be seen on Saturdays.
