Jalen Milroe shares his mindset on game-winning touchdown pass
Jalen Milroe‘s game-winning 31-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Bond on fourth down with under a minute left in the game gave Alabama a stunning 27-24 win over rival Auburn that will be forever remembered in Iron Bowl history. But according to Milroe, the effort and execution that went into the play dates a lot further back than the night of November 25.
Ahead of the SEC Championship game this weekend, Milroe took a look back at his iconic play and pulled back the curtain on the preparation behind it.
“During that play, I just thought about fall back to your level of training,” Milroe said. “What people don’t know is my Dad and I since we were little when we trained we were always about repetition. Repetition, repetition, repetition. Whether it was an out route, a go ball, a post ball, a dig, we threw that ball probably 150 times. Constantly, constantly, constantly throwing the ball until I mess up honestly. And I’m all about perfection, so that’s the biggest thing with my Dad, quick story right there.”
Milroe’s years of preparation in the past clearly paid off over the weekend, completing an extremely accurate pass to Bond in the corner of the end zone that Crimson Tide fans will forever remember positively and Tigers fans will dread seeing replays of in the future.
But for as much work and preparation Milroe put in individually that culminated into an unforgettable moment last Saturday night, he made sure to also give credit to his entire offense for their part in making the once-in-a-lifetime play possible.

“But with that play, it was all about the 11 guys,” Milroe said. “Start up front, they did a really good job being patient, being sound, fundamental, and taking care of the guys that rushed. And then with that play, the biggest thing about that play was we repeatedly work on that play every single week and it was an opportunity to take advantage of it and we were successful. But IB did a great job on his end getting open.”
Milroe’s late-game heroics kept the Crimson Tide undefeated in conference play this season, and potentially gave them a nice injection of energy ahead of their SEC Champion matchup against Georgia this weekend.
Alabama will take on the Bulldogs this Saturday in Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 4:00 p.m. ET in a marquee matchup airing on CBS.
