Alabama releases statement following death of former CB Khyree Jackson
News broke on Saturday that Minnesota Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson was involved in a fatal auto accident, claiming the lives of him, Anthony Lytton Jr. and Isaiah Hazel.
Jackson spent two seasons of his college career at Alabama before transferring to Oregon for the 2023 season. The Crimson Tide have now released a statement following the former Alabama cornerback’s tragic death.
“Alabama mourns the loss of former student-athlete Khyree Jackson,” the statement reads. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
During his two seasons in Tuscaloosa, the former junior college (Fort Scott CC) transfer played just under 200 snaps. During that time, he recorded 14 tackles and two pass breakups. He also played a career-high 59 snaps in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Georgia.
Jackson appeared in nine games the following season for the Crimson Tide but was suspended from the team for undisclosed reasons before deciding to enter the transfer portal and commit to Oregon.
At Oregon, he totaled 34 tackles (25 solo), he also compiled 5.0 tackles for loss, three interceptions, seven passes defended and 2.0 sacks. His interception total not only led the Ducks’ defense but ranked fourth in the Pac-12. For his efforts, Jackson earned First-Team All-Pac-12 honors in his lone season in Eugene before heading to the NFL Draft.

Details emerge from incident that claimed the lives of Jackson, Lytton Jr., Hazel
According to the report by Maryland State Police, troopers from the Forestville Barrack responded to a three-vehicle crash in the early hours of July 6 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The crash occurred on northbound Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue and Presidential Parkway north of Dower House Road. The three vehicles involved were a silver Infinity Q50, a silver Chevrolet Impala and a maroon Dodge Charger.
Notably, investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing circumstance in the crash. It’s unclear, as of this report, which parties may have been driving under the influence.
Hazel and Jackson were pronounced deceased on the scene while Lytton was transported to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by the attending medical professionals.
“The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the silver Infiniti, later identified as Cori Clingman, was traveling northbound on Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue in Prince George’s County,” the report reads. “Investigators believe Clingman attempted to change lanes while driving at a high rate of speed when she struck the Dodge Charger and then struck the Chevrolet Impala. The Charger subsequently traveled off of the right side of the roadway and struck multiple tree stumps where the vehicle came to rest.”
