The Alabama athletic department self-reported 11 minor NCAA violations across nine sports on Wednesday. There were no violations for its football team and only one for the men’s basketball team.

Women’s basketball and men’s and women’s swimming were the only programs to receive multiple violations. Other teams who were part of the report include baseball, women’s rowing, women’s soccer, women’s gymnastics and men’s golf.

All of the violations were considered Level 3, which is the second-lowest level the NCAA hands out. The organization classifies them as “breach of conduct” that are isolated or limited in nature, and don’t provide more than a minimal advantage or benefit.

The men’s basketball violation in question occurred on April 6 according to the report. Complimentary admission was sold to a student-athlete on a secondary market ticket website. Alabama declared to athlete ineligible then sought reinstatement.

Women’s basketball’s two violations came from “impermissible decorations” in a hotel room for an official visitor and for hosting an official visit during a “seven-day discretionary period following championship event.”

The most recent violation took place on June 13 from the women’s soccer team. It involved a coach sending an email to a prospective player before the first permissible date.

Additionally, the women’s swimming team received a violation for “mistakenly” paying for a transfer recruit’s meal valued at $32. All of the Alabama staff members involved in the NCAA violations have received minor punishments, with most boiling down to “rules education.”

Alabama basketball adds Brian Adams as assistant coach

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Nate Oats is hiring Detroit Pistons assistant coach Brian Adams to the Alabama staff. Adams was not with the Pistons for a full season but will now be making the move to college basketball for the second time in his career.

“ESPN Sources: Alabama is hiring the Detroit Pistons’ Brian Adams as an assistant coach on Nate Oats’ staff,” Wojnarowski said via X. “Adams joined Pistons midway through last season after nearly a decade under Doc Rivers with Sixers and Clippers.”

Oats has made a habit of hiring NBA assistants and bringing them to Tuscaloosa. Last offseason, Alabama lost all three staff members to other head coaching jobs. Ryan Pannone was hired off the New Orleans Pelicans and is still on staff heading into the 2024-2025 season.

Adams will now join Pannone, alongside Preston Murphy, to fill out the Alabama bench this season.
