Alabama set to hire Houston staffer Harding Harper for as new assistant director of player personnel
According to On3’s college football insider, Matt Zenitz, Alabama has added another name to their staff this offseason. That man: Harding Harper, who will join the Crimson Tide as an assistant director of player personnel. Here was the report from Zenitz, which he says first came from The Athletic’s Sam Khan Jr.:
“Alabama is hiring Houston’s Harding Harper as an assistant director of player personnel, a source tells @On3sports. First reported by @skhanjr.”
In his original report, Khan offered the following tidbit on the new member of the ‘Bama football staff:
“Harper spent last season on Houston’s recruiting staff as asst. DPP (director of player personnel) for defense. Former Vanderbilt LB who has also been on Missouri and Colorado staffs. Harding Harper was part of a recruiting staff at Houston that did a terrific job in the winter transfer portal window and brought in a quality high school recruiting class.”

The Harper news isn’t the only development on the coaching carousel for Alabama this month. Just yesterday (March 1) Zenitz also reported that another Tide staffer, Sal Sunseri, could be leaving for Colorado. Here was that report:
“Alabama staffer Sal Sunseri has emerged as the expected hire for the Colorado defensive tackles coach opening. Sunseri, a respected veteran coach, has coached players during his career such as Will Anderson and Julius Peppers. Sunseri, who has been back at ‘Bama since 2019 after a previous run from 2009-11, has been a defensive coordinator at Tennessee and also worked as an assistant for other college teams such as Florida and FSU and NFL teams like the Raiders and Panthers.”
So, Alabama lands a former Buffaloes staffer at one point, and on the other side of the coin, may be losing one of their own to Deion Sanders’ staff. As always, the carousel never stops!
