Alabama wide receiver Amari Jefferson plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Jefferson just wrapped up his true freshman season, spending one season in Tuscaloosa. He will now look for a new home with four years of eligibility.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer was not able to get Jefferson on the field this season. Rotation at the receiver position was tight, end for some of the more experienced players on the roster. Jefferson spent time on the scout team and even earned some honors ahead of the South Carolina matchup.

Certainly a loss for Alabama, seeing a player who was thought to have some solid potential leave the program.

Jefferson played high school football at Chattanooga (TN) Baylor School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 204 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

As most did in Alabama’s 2024 class, Jefferson signed when Nick Saban was still the head coach. When DeBoer took over early in the New Year, a decision had to be made. Jefferson took another official visit and ultimately decided to stick with his initial decision — even with wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins also leaving in favor of Texas A&M.

Georgia and Tennessee were Alabama’s two biggest competitors during Jefferson’s high school recruitment. Now, if those two want another crack at the youngster and steal one from their SEC rival, this is their opportunity.
