Relationships are important in sports – especially among college football players. That’s certainly the case for Alabama quarterback Bryce Young and wide receiver Jameson Williams, who have built a strong relationship during their time together in Tuscaloosa.

While Young has put together a phenomenal debut season as the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback, Williams has also been a playmaker for Nick Saban’s club after transferring in from Ohio State. Young and Williams have connected ever since they began practicing together, and that’s led to their success on the field this season.

As Young has thrown for 4,503 yards and 46 touchdowns this season, Williams has caught 75 passes for for 1,507 yards and 15 touchdowns, making them a tough duo for any opposing defense to handle. The way they’ve performed has Alabama ranked No. 1 and back in the College Football Playoff national championship.

Heading into Monday night’s national championship game, which will put the Crimson Tide up against Georgia in a rematch of the SEC championship, Williams was asked about his relationship with Young and what it means for them.

“We kind of go through practice and we work on a lot of timing on routes,” Williams said. “How this route is going to be seen through this defense, the steps on this route, when to look on this route, the leverage, how to do a lot of things. So me and Bryce, we have a strong relationship. It’s kind of been like that since the summer when I came in, we started working together.

“Since then we built a real strong relationship, and now it’s just the same. It’s just way stronger than it was, because just day-by-day we get closer together and everything. So I would say we have a pretty strong relationship.”

Jordan Battle shares how Nick Saban connects with Alabama players

Heading into Monday’s night national championship game between top-ranked Alabama and No. 3 Georgia, Crimson Tide defensive back Jordan Battle was asked how Nick Saban – who’s much older than his players – is able to connect with them during the recruiting process and while they’re playing for him in Tuscaloosa.

“He just gradually improves with the generations,” Battle said. “He fits in with us very well. He’s very comfortable talking to us. He’s very comfortable getting on us. And we, in this generation, we have to learn to take that.

“I know in this generation it’s a lot of attitude in kids, but somehow when we come to ‘Bama and Coach Saban is talking, everybody is focused and everybody is focused on what he’s saying. And everybody buys into what he’s saying.”
