Four-star wide receiver Amari Jefferson of Chattanooga (TN) Baylor School announced his commitment to Alabama Saturday afternoon.

The 6-foot-1, 195 pounder chose the Crimson Tide over Georgia and Tennessee.

“The constant love I felt from the coaching staff and the love they showed my family. They were constantly the school that was talking to my family and with every visit it seemed to get better. I felt I had a great connection with the staff but also felt like I could see myself in the offense and how they would use me.”

The relationship with the coaching staff and their plan for him was important in his decision as well.

“I have a great relationship with the staff that’s more than just football. I got a good relationship with a lot of them but really coach Saban, coach Cox and coach Wiggins. They plan to use me as a combo guy that can play both in and outside.”

Jefferson will play baseball and football for Alabama

The two-sport standout joins coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide’s top 5 class in the 2024 team rankings. He is accompanied by five-star quarterback Julian Sayin, five-star athlete Jaylen Mbakwe, and others.

Jefferson ranks as the No. 208 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 36 wide receiver and the No. 3 player in the state of Tennessee.

On3 ranks him higher than the industry, as he tabs in as the No. 103 player nationally, the No. 19 wide receiver, and the No. 2 player in Tennessee.

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $69K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Scouting Summary

“Do-it-all receiver who excels after the catch. Measured in at a shade over 5-foot-11 and north of 210 pounds prior to his senior season. Has average length. Built like a running back. Initially viewed as a baseball-first athlete and was committed to Tennessee for baseball prior to his breakout junior season on the gridiron. A high volume target while playing in a competitive private school league. Caught 72 passes for 1,370 yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior. Lines up all over the formation. Does much of his damage with the ball in his hands. Becomes a running back after the catch. Runs with tempo and understands angles. Has the lateral agility and shake to make defenders miss in space.”

“Sticks his foot in the ground and gets upfield quickly after the catch. Has the readymade build to run through arm tackles. Dangerous on speed sweeps. Would have the capability of motioning into the backfield and taking carries. Shows the ability to track the ball over his shoulder. Has solid routes, but should continue to improve in that regard over time. Has good play speed after the catch, but does not project as a deep separator relative to many other sub 6-foot receivers. Does not have verified athletic markers. Projects as a reliable short area and intermediate target who can maximize yardage after the catch. Could play a number of spots, but looks to be best fit in the slot. May also have a skill set ideal for returning punts.”
